ThoughtWorks: Redefining Office Spaces

Shenzhen Office: A Beacon of Innovation and Collaboration

ThoughtWorks, the Shenzhen office designed by Kyan Foo, is a testament to the power of design in fostering innovation and collaboration. This award-winning design, characterized by its simplicity, technology, and warmth, is a radical departure from traditional office layouts.

ThoughtWorks is more than just an office; it's a space designed to bring people together, spark the exchange of ideas, and fuel innovation. This ethos is the driving force behind Kyan Foo's design. By abandoning the traditional closed office format and old-fashioned layout, Foo has created a space that is not only functional but also inspiring.

The unique properties of this design lie in its simplicity, technology, and comfort. Foo has crafted a new design concept that reflects both the characteristics of Shenzhen city and the firm's localization in the city. The office space, predominantly in black, white, and gray, is punctuated with bright blue and red accents and decorated with natural greenery. The white logo at the main entrance is a striking feature, while the extended lighting styling adds a technological touch.

The design realization technology is another aspect that sets this office apart. The lobby, with its smooth curves and contour lines reminiscent of landscape terrains, presents a dynamic impression to visitors and employees. The multi-functional area has been transformed into a shared environment for work, leisure, thinking, and discussion, fostering "accidental collisions" and "unexpected encounters".

More than just a visually appealing space, ThoughtWorks is designed with the employees' comfort in mind. The informal meeting area features large French windows that let in natural light and offer views of the outdoor landscape. A variety of conference rooms cater to different communication needs, from private meetings to large gatherings. The three-dimensional conference space provides diverse communication experiences, from quiet corners for solitude to multi-tiered spaces for engaging discussions.

Despite the challenges posed by the design, such as creating slopes for other activities and ensuring a clean and tidy rest area, Foo has successfully created a space that is not only functional but also inspiring. The design has been recognized with a Silver A' Interior Space, Retail and Exhibition Design Award in 2020, a testament to its outstanding expertise and innovation.
