Chia-Peng Chen: Redefining Residential Interior Design

Unveiling the "Caring Times in a Distinctive Space" Project

Chia-Peng Chen, a visionary in the realm of interior design, introduces a new perspective on residential spaces with his project "Caring Times in a Distinctive Space". This award-winning design emphasizes environmental protection, health, and functionality while maintaining an aesthetic appeal.

The design's inspiration stems from the desire to create a calm and simple environment. Chen uses grayish white as the keynote color, symbolizing tranquility and simplicity. The designer daringly removes unnecessary walls to allow natural light to flow freely. The integration of storage into the space, the combination of metal wire with specular material, and the installation of elegant lighting eliminate the sense of oppression from the original beams. The result is a transformation from a dark, narrow space into a bright, open area.

What sets this design apart is its focus on environmental protection and health. Chen uses certified "green" building materials and minimizes the use of leather. The entire space is designed for full accessibility, with the layout based on functionality. The arrangement in the open-plan area, the layout of the walls, and the color coordination create rich gradations, highlighting the distinctiveness of life in this living space.

The realization of this design relies on the use of certified green building materials and a layout designed for full accessibility. The space spans 215 square meters and is tagged as a "Green interior design" and "Healthy decoration".

The design encourages interaction among family members. The consistency of the entire place extends to the bedrooms with the use of simple lines and a combination of grayish white and metallic paint. The low beams are concealed and transformed into eye-catching vertical surfaces. Some blank space is left deliberately in the bedrooms, encouraging the owner to bond more deeply with their children by looking for ornaments to fill the space.

Chen faced several challenges during the design process. The massive wall that extends from the entrance to the TV wall in the living room cleverly conceals the audio-visual equipment and its wires, making the living room look neat and vast. The cabinets can serve as storage, space dividers, or installation art, depending on the flow of the room. The hardwood floor, pasted boldly and accurately in perfect alignment, alternates with the lines of the stone material in the bar area and accords with those in the ceiling. Complete with furniture, the sense of space is accentuated, making the place look open and broad, with lots of diversity.

The design, located in Taichung, Taiwan, was awarded Silver in A' Interior Space, Retail and Exhibition Design Award in 2020. This prestigious award is given to top-of-the-line, creative, and professionally remarkable designs that illustrate outstanding expertise and innovation. These designs, admired for their strong technical characteristics and splendid artistic skill, showcase a remarkable level of excellence and introduce positive feelings, amazement, and wonder.
