Blue Sky: A Luxurious Industrial Style Residence in Taichung

An Exquisite Blend of Modern and Traditional Elements

Located in Taichung City, the Blue Sky residence is a stunning example of a luxurious industrial style design that beautifully harmonizes modern and traditional elements. Designed by Yu Ju Lin, this residential project showcases a clear theme and style distinction, with a focus on Turkish blue color and a combination of different materials.

The inspiration for the Blue Sky design came from the surrounding sea, with the design team choosing Turkish blue as the main visual concept to symbolize the vast, relaxing ocean. The use of oblique-shaped walls and indirect lighting illuminates the concrete boards, creating a unique industrial style. The contrast of a mustard yellow sofa and melanin board adds depth and detail to the overall design concept.

What sets the Blue Sky design apart is its regional compatibility with the local preference in Taichung City. The Turkish blue color and rough, brushed materials create a space that exudes a simple and relaxing personality. The design captures the pleasant climate of the city and seamlessly integrates modern and traditional elements.

The realization of the Blue Sky design involved the use of flexible melanin boards for door panels and storage cabinets, along with iron mesh to create spatial details. In the public areas, concrete panels and stones were used to add an earthy character. The master bedroom wall is covered with Malaysian paint, giving it a concrete-like appearance. The design achieves a light and luxurious industrial style that beautifies the living space without being excessive.

Despite the limited space in the master bedroom, the design maximizes storage efficiency. Customized storage wardrobes were created by utilizing the perpendicularity of the bedroom corner, while a combination of desks and cabinets provides a dressing space adjacent to the bedside cabinet. The Blue Sky design demonstrates the ability to optimize life efficiency in a limited bedroom.

The interaction of the Blue Sky design is carefully considered to meet the client's needs. The original TV back wall was removed and replaced with an open partition wall composed of glass and cultural stone, creating a transparent and low-profile space. The study room's door can be fully opened to connect the continuity of the space, enhancing the overall spatial experience.

The Blue Sky design project started in February 2017 and was completed in June 2017 in Taichung, Taipei. The design team conducted extensive research to create a luxurious industrial style residence that embodies the essence of Turkish blue color and original concrete boards. The design overcame challenges in creating an open dining area that combines functionality and visual impact, resulting in a unique and captivating space.

The Blue Sky design has been recognized for its excellence and creativity, receiving the Bronze A' Design Award in the Interior Space, Retail, and Exhibition Design category in 2020. This prestigious award honors designs that demonstrate outstanding creativity, technical skills, and contributions to improving the quality of life.

With its simple, light, and luxurious industrial style, the Blue Sky design offers a distinctive interior storage function. The clever use of materials, Turkish blue accents, and detailed iron mesh create a rough and design-forward vocabulary. Despite the limitations of space, the design creates unlimited possibilities and fulfills the client's living needs. The Blue Sky residence is a true testament to the artistry and innovation of Yu Ju Lin's design expertise.
