House of Forest PlayCapsule: A Unique Blend of Art and Architecture

Fineland Architecture and Studio Revo's Award-Winning Design Inspired by Traditional Chinese Art

Fineland Architecture and Studio Revo have created an innovative space for children, the House of Forest PlayCapsule. This unique design, inspired by traditional Chinese paper cutting, combines 2D and 3D techniques to bring an ancient fairy tale tree to life in the modern world.

The House of Forest PlayCapsule is more than just a playhouse for children. It offers a variety of activities such as book readings, craft workshops, and lectures. It also serves as a safe space for parents to leave their children when they are visiting no-child sites. The design of the space is centered around safety, with simple furniture and accessories filling the volumes complemented by no-harm disposal, such as corners, columns, and touchable stuff.

The design team, led by Liebao Chen, faced the challenge of creating a space that would be both visually appealing and safe for children. They achieved this by using a combination of 2D and 3D techniques inspired by traditional Chinese paper cutting arts. The result is a colorful tree consisting of superimposed 2D leaves that gradually grow into 3D versions of themselves. This unique piece functions on both an abstract and artistic plane, appealing to both adults and children alike.

The House of Forest PlayCapsule was created in Heshan, Guangdong Province, China, between May and November 2019. The design was realized using color coating, wood veneer, carpet, and terrazzo. The space covers an area of 180 square meters and is designed to be both entertaining and relaxing for children.

The design of the House of Forest PlayCapsule was recognized with a Silver A' Interior Space, Retail and Exhibition Design Award in 2020. This prestigious award is given to designs that demonstrate outstanding expertise and innovation, and that introduce positive feelings, amazement, and wonder.

The House of Forest PlayCapsule is a testament to the innovative and creative abilities of Fineland Architecture and Studio Revo. Its unique design, inspired by traditional Chinese art and focused on the safety and enjoyment of children, sets it apart from other designs in the field.

As the architects of the House of Forest PlayCapsule, Fineland Architecture and Studio Revo have shown that they are not only capable of creating visually stunning designs, but also spaces that are safe and enjoyable for children. This project is a perfect example of how art, architecture, and design can come together to create a unique and engaging space.
