Maoyuan Jingxi: A Fusion of Fashion, Art, and Architecture

An Award-Winning Design by Ask Studio, Transcending Boundaries

Ask Studio presents Maoyuan Jingxi, a unique showroom design that blends fashion and art into a living space. This innovative concept, which won the Silver A' Interior Space, Retail and Exhibition Design Award in 2021, is a testament to the studio's commitment to transcending boundaries between art, design, fashion, and architecture.

Maoyuan Jingxi is a residential space designed for high-end art collectors. Located in Beijing's golden area, this 680sqm space spans five floors, each serving a unique function. The design concept, inspired by fashion, extends from fabric manipulations to space design, viewing clothing as a micro space in which people live. This innovative perspective has resulted in a space that is not just a place for displaying artworks, but a living area where art is integrated into daily life.

The design's unique properties lie in its artistic sensibility. Art and fashion serve as the design theme, creating a space that is more than just a display of artworks. The space, people, and life are connected through artistic elements, enhancing living aesthetics. The application of fabric is not limited to material design but is a comprehensive expression of diversified materials such as metal, glass carving, cloth art, and stone texture.

The realization of this design involved the use of various techniques. For instance, the artistic flower ceiling on the stair was handcrafted by artisans. In the collection room on the B2 floor, artworks of different styles are displayed harmoniously. The design also makes use of high space, providing an ideal environment for the display of collections.

One of the design's most striking features is its ability to turn two-dimensional concepts into three-dimensional structures. The ink marble floor sets an artistic background for the space, while organ pleats made of different materials are reflected on the wall and ceiling, adding flexibility to the space. The living room features numerous paintings, filling the entire room with an artistic atmosphere. The collection room is designed with a flowing waterfall, providing both visual and auditory artistic enjoyment.

The project, which started in 2018 and was completed in August 2019, faced several challenges. However, Ask Studio's belief that fantastic design can interpret memory, create dreams, and transcend boundaries helped them overcome these hurdles. The result is a personalized practical utopia that combines fashion and art, a testament to the studio's innovative approach to design.
