Pithy Pure: A Casual and Elegant Japanese-Style Residence

Creating a Safe and Serene Environment for a Growing Family

The Pithy Pure residence, designed by Yan Ru Chen of MU’S DESIGN, is a stunning example of a casual and elegant Japanese-style home. Inspired by the Japanese cultural spirit, the design team used warm wooden materials to bring out the fresh and natural sense of Japanese style. The space combines function and aesthetics, integrating daily function and sacred space seamlessly. With a focus on safety and large-capacity storage, this residence provides a comfortable and secure environment for a growing family.

The Pithy Pure residence is located in Fengshan District, Kaohsiung City, and was designed for a young couple and their children. The clients desired a casual and elegant Japanese-style design that would also meet their safety and storage needs. Additionally, the clients are devoted to Japanese Shinto faith, and wanted the space to integrate and incorporate rituals into their daily life. The design team aimed to create a space that transcends tangible boundaries and executes a meaningful spiritual life.

The space utilizes natural wood and elegant color paint to create a leisurely atmosphere. The clean lines and powerful storage function perfectly interpret the core of Japanese style - natural, comfortable, simple, and practical. The design team also took into consideration the ceiling beams in the public area, covering them with warm wooden materials to create a harmonious and pleasant space temperature.

Integrating the unique Japanese religion and aesthetic style into daily life functions, the Pithy Pure residence uses simple and profound aesthetic language. Wood veneer, lacquered glass, wooden floors, and elegant color paint are used to interpret the simple and gentle Japanese style. Light and shadow rhythm, along with unique design ingenuity, shape the spiritual circle where life and faith coexist.

The project was completed in January 2020 in Kaohsiung City, Taiwan. Under the limited budget, the design team successfully integrated the daily needs of the clients with modern style and calm Japanese style. They carefully considered the growth and development of the children and the clients' religious beliefs. Through rational and correct logic, the design team reorganized the circulation and used the characteristics of the materials to compound multiple functions, creating a multi-faceted and dynamic functional structure for the modern small family.

The Pithy Pure residence was awarded the Iron A' Design Award in 2021. This prestigious award is given to well-designed, practical, and innovative creations that meet professional and industrial requirements. The design of Pithy Pure is respected for integrating industry best practices and competent technical characteristics, providing fulfillment and positive feelings, and contributing to a better world.
