Minimalist Office Design: A Celebration of Raw Materiality and Geometric Simplicity

Yang Peng and Zaiyun Yin's Award-Winning Office Design for 8C ART SPACE and INCH

Yang Peng and Zaiyun Yin, the designers behind the 8C ART SPACE, have created an office design that is a testament to minimalism and simplicity. Inspired by natural surroundings, the design is a celebration of raw materiality and geometric simplicity.

The 800-square-meter office, located northeast of central Changsha, is home to the interior design studio 8C ART SPACE and its construction company, INCH. The office's minimalist white interior was overhauled by 8C ART SPACE, showcasing a raw, minimalistic aesthetic that strips the space down to its core, allowing for a deeper exploration of design.

The office serves as a workplace for the 8C ART SPACE team and also as a showroom for INCH. Upon entering the showroom through a floor-to-ceiling automatic sliding door, visitors are greeted by high-end imported small-size spotlights. The spacious main hall is versatile, capable of hosting large-scale meetings or transforming into a gallery-style space for events.

Connecting the studio and showroom is a long light corridor, adorned with a curated collection of raw material boards in various textures. A black carbonized timber bench seat offers a place for staff to rest. The use of various translucent materials in the office design creates an open-plan layout that promotes easy circulation and clear sightlines.

The design's unique properties lie in its use of spatial angles and lighting to provide contrast to the stark white interior. Light, shade, and line are employed to create a visually engaging environment. The design was realized over a period of 10 months in Changsha, China.

This minimalist office design has been recognized with the prestigious Silver A' Interior Space, Retail and Exhibition Design Award in 2021. The award is a testament to the design's outstanding expertise and innovation, its strong technical characteristics, and splendid artistic skill. The design introduces positive feelings, amazement, and wonder, truly embodying the spirit of the A' Design Award.
