Forest Breath: A Unique Residential Showflat Design

Bringing Nature Indoors with Pingyu Kuo

Inspired by the desire to incorporate sunlight and greenery into living spaces, Pingyu Kuo's Forest Breath design seamlessly merges the natural world with interior elements. By utilizing multi-layered plants on the balcony and integrating them with natural materials inside, this design creates a harmonious blend of indoor and outdoor environments. The result is a living space that offers a unique atmosphere and elevates the quality of life.

Forest Breath stands out from other residential showflats with its innovative approach to enlarging public spaces and integrating greenery into the interior. By combining the study room and living room, this design breaks down traditional room boundaries and allows for a more fluid and dynamic living experience.

The realization of Forest Breath involves the use of various materials such as melamine board, quartz lamina, marble, glass, wood, and steel. These materials are carefully selected to create a cohesive and visually appealing aesthetic.

This 104 m2 fourth-floor building encompasses a living room, kitchen, restaurant, study, master bedroom, two additional rooms, and a bathroom. The layout is thoughtfully designed to maximize space and create a seamless flow between different areas.

Forest Breath is characterized by its modern, simple, and low luxury design. The emphasis on wood and natural materials creates a warm and inviting atmosphere, while the integration of nature elements enhances the overall ambiance.

To enhance the visual impact of the space, the design incorporates a ceiling that integrates the living room and dining room. Additionally, the removal of the wall between the living room and study room creates a sense of depth, further expanding the perceived size of the space. The use of the same marble material helps to visually connect these two areas.

Forest Breath was completed in June 2020 in Taichung City, Taiwan. Throughout the design process, extensive research was conducted to create a living environment that fosters a strong connection between people and nature. The use of natural materials and a low chromaticity color palette contributes to a calming and comfortable atmosphere.

One of the main challenges faced during the design process was creating a focal point in the public area. To address this, a shutter made of quartz lamina, wood, and steel was incorporated. Careful consideration was given to the functionality and aesthetics of the shutter, ensuring that it not only serves its purpose but also adds visual interest to the space.

Forest Breath has received recognition for its exceptional design. It was awarded the Iron A' Design Award in the Interior Space, Retail, and Exhibition Design category in 2021. This prestigious award is given to designs that demonstrate innovation, practicality, and adherence to professional and industrial standards. Forest Breath is celebrated for its ability to create a fulfilling and positive living experience, contributing to a better world.
