Yuya Morishita, along with Hideyuki Hata and Lingli Gui, embarked on a six-month journey to create a design that would stand the test of time. The Bund Shanghai KNT, a private club, is nestled atop a historic building, offering a panoramic view of the Huangpu River. The club features an entrance hall, living room, bedroom, dining room, kitchen, and office, each designed with a modern aesthetic that promises to remain relevant even after a decade.
The design's unique properties lie in its attention to detail and the use of local conditions. The team appropriated Western architectural elements to emphasize the flowing water and reflective elements of the Bund and Huangpu River. The design also pays homage to the Bund area's unique blend of modern and historical expressions.
The entrance hallway, a key highlight of the design, is adorned with Italian marble on the floors, walls, and ceiling. The chosen marble boasts a distinct wood-like pattern with horizontal veins, adding a touch of sophistication to the space. The lighting system, embedded in the lower shadow line of the walls and the ceiling, enhances the room's elegance and class.
The design faced a significant challenge in supporting the weight of the marble on the ceiling. The team had to ensure the design was perfectly straight and symmetrical, with the marble veins running continuously from floor to ceiling. This required careful selection of marble pieces to maintain the design's flow.
Club House - Drip Line is not just a design project; it's a celebration of Shanghai's cultural heritage and its rapid modernization. The project is a testament to the July Cooperative Company's commitment to building with consideration for the Bund's cultural heritage, while still maintaining a modern design and atmosphere.
Yuya Morishita's Club House - Drip Line is a shining example of how design can bridge the gap between the past and the future, creating a space that is both timeless and modern. With its Silver A' Design Award, it stands as a beacon of creativity, innovation, and technical expertise in the realm of interior design.
