Boo: A Child-Safe Cleaning Product Line

Evgeniya Abramova's Innovative Design for Baby-Friendly Cleaning Products

The concept for Boo was born out of a semester course project in packaging design. Abramova identified a need for cleaning products that are aggressive towards dirt and germs but safe for children. The strict rules for caring for a baby, especially in the first few months, require a clean and safe environment. Recognizing that children love to touch everything and put their fingers in their mouths, Abramova designed a product that would effectively combat harmful microbes and bacteria while being safe for a child's developing immune system.

Boo's unique design features pale colors on the packaging that create the illusion of killing germs by revealing the clear part of the safety information bottle. Each product in the line has a unique microbial design, indicating that different microbes live on different surfaces. This playful design element signifies that the products belong to the nursery category. The line includes a universal gel for washing children's dishes and toys based on chamomile extract, a gel for cleaning floors based on aloe vera extract, and a spray for cleaning bathrooms and toilets with tea tree extract.

The packaging design concept of Boo clearly illustrates that the child’s toys and the rest will be disinfected effectively. This effect is also enhanced by the product transparency, that shows its naturalness, purity and the absence of unnecessary chemicals. Using this product line the parents will feel safe about their child.

The project was made while studying at the British Higher School of Art and Design. The project began in October 2019 and ended in December 2019 in Moscow/Russia and was first published on Behance in April 2020. The design was awarded Silver in A' Packaging Design Award in 2021, a testament to its creativity and professional excellence.

In conclusion, Boo is a testament to Abramova's innovative design approach and commitment to creating products that are not only functional but also safe for young children. The design's unique microbial illustrations and pale colors create a playful yet sophisticated aesthetic, while its use of natural ingredients ensures it is safe for children. With Boo, parents can feel confident that their child's environment is clean and safe.
