Axeed: Revolutionizing Freelance Design

Huangchen Qi was inspired to create Axeed after observing the difficulties freelance designers often encounter in their work. These include late payments from clients, poor work management, and the inability to find suitable designers. Existing platforms were not adequately addressing these problems, leading Qi to reimagine a freelance designer platform that could benefit both designers and clients.

Axeed stands out due to its unique properties. It provides a new way of working and cooperation for freelance designers and clients. By employing a style and skill matching system, clients can find the most suitable designers. The platform also assists designers with various tasks such as contract creation, payment tracking, and project management. The ultimate goal of Axeed is to facilitate effective communication between designers and clients and ensure projects are completed perfectly on time.

The realization of Axeed involved a meticulous process. Qi conducted secondary research, expert interviews, mind mapping, and surveys. The design phase involved the use of Adobe XD and Adobe Illustration to create the prototype. The application is available on both iOS and Android platforms.

Axeed's interaction design is equally impressive. The platform has separate interfaces for freelance designers and clients. Designers choose their software skills and style preferences, and Axeed automatically recommends matching jobs. Clients set their style and skill requirements, and Axeed recommends matching designers. The platform also offers step-by-step payments, ensuring that clients pay on time and designers upload progress in time.

The development of Axeed began in May 2020 and was completed in August 2020 in Los Angeles. The project involved extensive research to understand the pain points of freelance designers and clients. Qi also conducted competitive analysis and multiple rounds of user tests to ensure the feasibility of the design. The biggest challenge during the design process was presenting various aspects of information in an easily readable manner. This was achieved by designing several versions of the same page and selecting the most effective through user testing.

Axeed has been recognized for its innovative approach to solving problems in the freelance design industry. It was awarded Silver in A' Interface, Interaction, and User Experience Design Award in 2021. This prestigious award is given to top-of-the-line, creative, and professionally remarkable designs that showcase a remarkable level of excellence and introduce positive feelings, amazement, and wonder.
