Tao: A Jewelry Collection Inspired by the Taichi Pattern

Bringing Harmony and Movement to Fashion Jewelry

Tao jewelry collection draws inspiration from the Chinese traditional Taichi pattern, symbolizing perfection, harmony, infinite potential, and energy. Designer Xiaoqian Wang deconstructs and diversifies the pattern into several "Taichi" structures with different wearabilities, introducing movement and multi-way wearing options to create a vibrant and delightful experience.

The Taichi pattern, with a history of 3000 years in China, holds deep cultural significance. It represents the dance of Yin and Yang, the balance between opposing forces, and the harmony of the universe. Designer Xiaoqian Wang delved into the essence of this pattern, using sketches, paper models, and 3D digital modeling to understand the movement and energy it embodies.

The result is the Tao jewelry collection, a fusion of traditional Chinese culture and contemporary design. The collection includes earrings, necklaces, bangles, and rings, each showcasing the intricate Taichi pattern in a unique way. The jewelry pieces are made using a combination of traditional craftsmanship and modern technology.

One of the standout features of the collection is the earring design. An axle allows half of the earring to rotate 180 degrees, transforming it from a stable round shape to a dynamic long earring. The ear stud on one half of the earring passes through the hole on the other half, creating a captivating visual effect.

The necklace in the Tao collection also offers versatility. Tiny silicone stoppers inside the back of the necklace allow for adjustable chain length, catering to different neck sizes. Additionally, the buckle at the end of the necklace can be linked at the back of the neck, transforming it into a double-chain short necklace.

With its spatial thinking and innovative design, the Tao jewelry collection brings vitality and delight to the wearing experience. The pieces are made from brass with silver or 24k gold plating, ensuring both durability and elegance.

The Tao jewelry collection was a result of meticulous decision-making and problem-solving. Designer Xiaoqian Wang, who also served as the 3D modeler for the project, navigated challenges such as determining the 3D printing process, building inlet and support structures, and ensuring the functionality of the movable parts. Through a combination of design expertise and collaboration with the production team, these challenges were overcome, resulting in a collection that seamlessly blends artistry and technology.

The Tao jewelry collection has received recognition for its exceptional design. It was awarded the Bronze A' Design Award in the Jewelry, Eyewear, and Watch Design category in 2021. This prestigious award honors designs that exhibit creativity, resourcefulness, and technical excellence, contributing to improvements in quality of life.

With its homage to Chinese tradition and its innovative approach to jewelry design, the Tao collection is a testament to the power of merging art, culture, and technology. Each piece tells a story of balance, harmony, and the infinite potential found within the Taichi pattern.
