Tianliao: A Modern Fire Station with a Centralized Layout

A New Standard in Fire Station Design

Tianliao Fire Station, designed by Suiadr, is revolutionizing the concept of fire station design with its centralized layout and innovative features. Located in Guangming District, Shenzhen, this state-of-the-art facility sets a new standard for functionality, efficiency, and aesthetics in the field of fire safety.

The Tianliao Fire Station occupies a land area of 4,099.16 m2 and boasts a gross floor area of 5,039.5 m2. The design comprises a three-story office building and a seven-story training tower, providing ample space for training, administration, and emergency response operations.

What sets Tianliao Fire Station apart is its vertical design, which makes it almost as tall as the adjacent Huanguang Road. This unique feature not only enhances the station's visibility but also prevents rainwater from flowing into the interior. The layout of the station adheres to strict requirements for setback, sunshine, and fire prevention, ensuring optimal functionality and safety.

The pedestrian entrance and exit are strategically located on the southwest side, allowing for easy access for both staff and visitors. The open areas, such as the foyer and canteen, are primarily situated on the first and mezzanine floors, minimizing any disruption to the daily training activities of the firemen.

When it comes to construction, Tianliao Fire Station utilizes cutting-edge technology and materials. The exterior windows feature LOW-E energy-efficient glass and thermal mortar, while the roofing is paved with 50mm extruded polystyrene boards for superior thermal insulation. The project predominantly employs a reinforced concrete frame structure, ensuring durability and stability.

With a floor area ratio of 0.97, Tianliao Fire Station maximizes the use of space while maintaining an aesthetically pleasing design. The septic tank and oil separator tank adopt integrated equipment, such as glass steel, for efficient and environmentally friendly waste management. The energy-saving water heating system incorporates solar power and air force heat pump technology, further reducing the station's carbon footprint.

The design team, led by Suiadr, collaborated with the Institute of Architectural Design and Research at Shenzhen University and Z&Z STUDIO to bring Tianliao Fire Station to life. The project was completed within a timeframe of November 2016 to July 2020, showcasing the team's dedication and expertise.

Tianliao Fire Station is not only a functional and efficient facility but also a testament to the importance of research and innovation in fire station design. The project adhered to the research results of "the 2014 Shenzhen Fire Station Standardization Design Workshop," establishing new construction standards for fire stations in the region. The design also won a second prize awarded by Suiadr in 2020, further validating its excellence.

By overcoming challenges such as building setbacks and limited land availability, the design team successfully created a fire station that meets the basic needs of the profession while embodying the principles of openness and cultural promotion. Tianliao Fire Station is a testament to the power of design in enhancing safety and functionality in our communities.
