The Lupin Pavilion: A Post-Pandemic Architectural Marvel

Residential Building Inspired by Nature and History

The Lupin Pavilion, designed by Ccplan Design - Wang Sheng Cheng, is a residential building that combines innovative technology, nature-inspired aesthetics, and a post-pandemic architectural style. This unique project takes inspiration from the lupin flower, historical red brick kilns, and the natural beauty of the Longtan District in Taoyuan, Taiwan.

The Lupin Pavilion draws its name and design inspiration from the lupin flower, which has been a symbol of nourishment for the tea farms of the Hakka tribes in Taiwan. The interior of the building features patterns inspired by the unique flower, while the reception desk in the lobby is made from natural acacia trees, paying homage to the land's rich history. The facade of the building and its warm color palette are influenced by the striking silhouettes of historical red brick kiln smoke stacks that dot the Longtan landscape.

What sets the Lupin Pavilion apart is its focus on post-pandemic living. The design team, led by Wang Sheng Cheng, envisioned a low-density occupancy building that prioritizes safety and cleanliness. The 50 households share seven smart pandemic preventative elevators equipped with state-of-the-art ventilation systems and hand gesture capabilities to limit touch points. Each residence also has a private mudroom, acting as a buffer to keep the home safe and clean.

The realization of the Lupin Pavilion incorporates cutting-edge technology and a deep respect for nature. The innovative pandemic preventative elevators utilize hand gestures to limit touch points and feature high-tech ventilation systems. The residential towers are strategically placed atop a plateau, taking advantage of panoramic views and excellent air flow. The underground parking lot is EV charger compatible, and the entire design emphasizes safety, cleanliness, and multi-functionality.

The Lupin Pavilion consists of three ten-story towers, an underground parking lot, and an infinity pool, all situated on a site overlooking the mountains and valleys below. The design team, comprising POSAMO Design and construction company 33 MEGA CO., LTD, meticulously planned every detail to create a harmonious and functional living space.

The Lupin Pavilion promotes community interaction while respecting personal space. The public spaces are flexible, accommodating various uses, and maintaining a cohesive connection between people. Separate entrances ensure privacy, and sliding dividers in the banquet hall create exclusive spaces for private events. Each residence is equipped with a mudroom at the entrance, allowing residents to leave their shoes and jackets and disinfect for sanitary purposes before entering their homes.

The Lupin Pavilion project began in early 2020 and is expected to be completed by December 2023. Located in the Longtan District, Taoyuan, Taiwan, the design draws inspiration from the rich history of the region. The red brick kilns, acacia trees, and the lupin flower patterns reflect the cultural heritage and natural beauty of the area.

The Lupin Pavilion has overcome several challenges, including creating a safe and welcoming space in the era of social distancing. The design team successfully balanced safety and luxury, incorporating technology and nature to provide residents with a peaceful and versatile living environment. The unique geography of the site, perched atop a plateau, also presented challenges that were creatively addressed.

The Lupin Pavilion, with its innovative design, post-pandemic focus, and homage to nature and history, has been recognized for its excellence. It was awarded the Bronze A' Design Award in the Construction and Real Estate Projects Design category in 2021. This prestigious award acknowledges the outstanding creativity and resourcefulness of the design, incorporating best practices in art, science, design, and technology.
