Sunlight: A Nordic Style Residential Apartment

Creating Spacious and Open Living Spaces

A family of three with children needs ample space for storage and play. Liu Chichuan, Chen Yunju, and Fang Renkai designed Sunlight, a residential apartment in Taipei, to meet these requirements while maintaining a cozy atmosphere.

For a family of three with children, sufficient storage and play space is especially needed. The designers made use of the square layout with good lighting to connect the originally narrow living room area with the open kitchen, creating a spacious and open public space. This design allows for uninterrupted interaction between the couple and the children. To add a touch of visual interest, the TV wall is decorated with a lotus root purple color, serving as a highlight in the living room.

The original open kitchen was preserved, using glass doors to increase the flexibility of the space while maintaining an open view. This design choice enhances the overall openness and flow of the apartment. To fully satisfy the storage needs of the homeowner, cabinets were placed above the bed, and light wood grain was used to pave the foyer, creating a soft and comfortable atmosphere.

The design team utilized various materials and techniques to bring Sunlight to life. Tile flooring, woodwork veneer, ultra-abrasive wood flooring, special paints, and woodwork spray paints were used to achieve the desired aesthetic and functionality. The TV wall was carefully designed with purple tones to add a pinkish atmosphere and serve as a visual highlight in the living room. Additionally, the ceiling height was extended through the trimming of large beams, reducing the feeling of pressure and creating a more spacious ambiance.

Sunlight showcases a harmonious blend of Nordic style, interior design, and residential living. The project, which started in July 2020 and finished in December 2020, demonstrates the designers' ability to overcome challenges and create a functional and visually appealing space. The square layout and good lighting presented creative opportunities, and the trimming of the TV wall's large beams was a technical challenge that was successfully overcome.

Sunlight has been recognized for its excellence and innovation. It was awarded the Iron A' Design Award in 2021 in the Interior Space, Retail, and Exhibition Design category. This prestigious award is given to well-designed, practical, and innovative creations that meet professional and industrial requirements. Sunlight's integration of industry best practices and competent technical characteristics contribute to a better world and provide fulfillment and positive feelings for its inhabitants.
