Silence in All: A Low-Key Luxury Residential Design

Unveiling the Harmonic Beauty of Shades of Grey

The uniqueness of the Silence in All design lies in its overall structure, which spreads out through shades of grey. Natural slates, glass, grey mirrors, and other reflective and visually transparent materials create a rich and changing beauty of hierarchy within the narrow and long space. The addition of wall cabinets, double-sided cabinets, and glass-made cabinets enhances the spatial effect, achieving a balance between functionality and aesthetics.

The realization of the Silence in All design incorporates various technologies and materials, including natural thin sintered stones, Italy-imported paints, glass tiles, painted glasses, architectural concrete, laminates, double-colored cabinets, green building materials, aluminum-plastic panels, spray slates, and tiles.

This particular project involved the renovation of a 40-year-old house. The designer addressed issues such as flooding by rearranging the basic structure, strengthening waterproof equipment, and increasing the height of the base. Green building materials, such as Fiberock, were used to extend dehumidification pipelines and solve moisture-related problems. The design also incorporated techniques to soften towering beam-columns and improve the overall traffic flow within the space.

The Silence in All design was realized by Wei-Han Shih and his team. The interaction of the design revolves around the division of the space into a garage, public area, private area, and basement storage area. Each site is equipped with various cabinets and storage solutions, maximizing the functionality of the space. Linear partitions and the natural grains of the materials create a harmonious and consistent low-key atmosphere in the narrow and long spatial layout.

The Silence in All design was completed in September 2018 in Taiwan. The research behind the design focused on the use of natural thin sintered stones and grey-colored elements to create a low-key, steady, yet luxurious ambiance. Glass tiles, grey mirrors, and transparent glass-made cabinets were strategically incorporated to enhance the sense of space and display the owner's rare collections.

The design of Silence in All faced several challenges, including the renovation of an old house with height insufficiencies and flood issues. The designer overcame these challenges by rearranging the basic structure, implementing waterproof measures, and using antifungal, moisture-resistant, and soundproof materials. The use of light and thin natural sintered stones helped optimize the space, while grey mirrors, glass tiles, and painted glasses added a transparent and reflexive quality, creating a feeling of enlargement and extension.

With the Silence in All design, Wei Han Shih draws inspiration from the client's passion for ink paintings and rare art pieces. The expansion of grains from natural materials and shades of grey creates a floating-like imagery that tells the story of everything. The use of natural thin sintered stones highlights the unique sense of the room, emphasizing the beauty of the same shades of grey.
