Azure Blue and Emerald Harmony

Residential Design by Tan Chieh Chen

The client enjoys reading and living and decided to create a living space surrounded by daylight, hoping to integrate the interior design with the 10,000 level-ground parks outside the window. Hence, the designer wished to connect the space with the outdoor scenery and construct a harmonious aesthetic. The color arrangements were critical while planning this project; the calm and restrained black, gray and white tones are combined with the selection of materials to quench an elegant and quiet harmony.

The Azure Blue and Emerald Harmony design by Tan Chieh Chen is a residential project that seamlessly blends the interior with the surrounding outdoor scenery. The client's desire for a living space filled with natural light led to the creation of a harmonious aesthetic that integrates with the 10,000 level-ground parks outside the window.

One of the unique properties of this design is its ability to draw daylight into the interior with balance. The semi-open-end design, gray glass sliding doors with iron frames, and a leading white tone supplemented by calm elements create a sense of tranquility and elegance. The use of different lighting fixtures, such as linear recessed lights, wall lights, display lights, and chandeliers, adds a unique atmosphere to each area of the residence during the night.

The design team took advantage of the space by using thick black window frames that act as picture frames, capturing the flowing clouds and layers of mountains outside the windows. This creates the feeling of enjoying an endless landscape painting when coming home. The semi-open-end display shelves in the functional area provide comprehensive display and storage space for the client's collection of treasures and wines.

The color scheme of the Azure Blue and Emerald Harmony design was carefully thought out to achieve overall balance. The main tonal of the room consists of black, gray, and white, complemented by blue and gray tones of soft furnishings. This creates layers with rich changes within the low-chroma spatial tone and enhances the connection between the interior and the outdoor scenery.

Integrating the view of the windows into the interior was one of the key challenges of this design. The designer achieved this by using matching colors of black, white, and gray as much as possible. The window entrance, floorings, and handles were arranged coherently to deliver perfection and harmony in both function and sight.

The Azure Blue and Emerald Harmony design successfully brings the outdoor scenery into the room, creating a harmonious and coherent feeling. The color schemes and the rough window surface frame the outdoor scenery, while blue soft furnishings and gray elements provide depth and layers to the space. The result is an orderly aesthetic multiplication of layers and flowing paintings of remote mountains.

This residential design by Tan Chieh Chen was awarded the Iron A' Design Award in the Interior Space, Retail, and Exhibition Design category in 2022. This prestigious award recognizes well-designed, practical, and innovative creations that meet professional and industrial requirements. The Azure Blue and Emerald Harmony design stands out for its integration of industry best practices, competent technical characteristics, and its contribution to a better world.
