Reconstruct: Posters by Haku Wang

Advocating Community Reconnection in the Post-Epidemic Era

Since the outbreak of the epidemic, people have been forced to live in small-scale communities and are under tremendous mental pressure. The design, which was inspired by Kandinsky’s research on points, lines, planes, and colors, aims to build a new bridge between thinking and vision. With the use of these fundamental elements, it reconstructs a new way of perceiving the world and arouses people’s urge to interact and communicate.

The set of posters, designed by Haku Wang, advocates the importance of reconnection among communities in the post-epidemic era. Each poster showcases a unique approach to visual storytelling, capturing the essence of the design's message.

The first poster utilizes graphic filling and stacking techniques to represent an anxious person facing the epidemic. The visual elements convey a sense of unease and urgency, prompting viewers to reflect on the challenges faced by individuals in a post-pandemic world.

The second poster features a special box, symbolizing a camera, capturing critical moments of change. This design element emphasizes the importance of documenting and sharing experiences, encouraging viewers to actively engage with their surroundings.

The third poster reconstructs the shape of Gambiered Canton Gauze Zongzi, a traditional Chinese delicacy, using lines and rectangles. These lines also symbolize the connection between people, highlighting the significance of community bonds and collective resilience.

Created using Adobe Illustrator, Affinity Designer, and Adobe After Effects software, these posters showcase the designer's technical expertise and artistic vision. The attention to detail and meticulous execution bring the designs to life, capturing the viewer's attention and sparking curiosity.

Whether displayed in print or digital formats, these posters serve as powerful tools for community engagement. They are designed to pique viewers' interest and direct them to participate in activities or follow the official organization's account for more information. Additionally, the posters are transformed into animated graphics for digital promotion campaigns on social media platforms.

The project, initiated in September 2021 in Foshan, China, combines elements of constructivism and Kandinsky's Points and Lines to Plane theory. By exploring the composition of the world and reconstructing a new way of perceiving it, the design aims to inspire individuals to reconnect and actively participate in their communities.

Using simple geometric shapes and flat techniques, such as triangles, circles, or squares, the design presents viewers with a unique world where the relations between symbols and meanings are not definite, allowing for multiple interpretations. The deliberate use of highly saturated colors in each poster creates a sense of unease and urgency, demanding viewers' attention. The spatial arrangement of color blocks and graphics creates an ambiguous space, blurring the boundaries between two-dimensional and three-dimensional forms, constantly intriguing and challenging the viewer's perception.

This design has been recognized for its excellence and innovation, receiving the Iron A' Design Award in the Graphics, Illustration, and Visual Communication Design category in 2022. This prestigious award acknowledges well-designed, practical, and innovative creations that meet professional and industrial requirements. The design's integration of industry best practices and competent technical characteristics contributes to a better world, providing fulfillment and positive feelings to its viewers.
