The Notion: A Unique Coffee Table Design by Reding Ho

Abstract Thought Forms Transformed into a Functional Art Piece

Inspired by the abstract nature of thought, Reding Ho's coffee table design, The Notion, combines artistic expression with functional design. With its irregular spheres stacked into columns, this coffee table is a visual representation of the collision and multiplication of ideas. The use of glossy lacquer material adds warmth and a touch of primitive sensibility to the rational design concept.

The Notion stands out with its unique properties that set it apart from other coffee table designs. The irregular spheres symbolize the perception and difference of things, showcasing Reding Ho's strong artistic style. The combination of cold stone and colorful glossy lacquer creates a striking contrast, expressing the primitive state of the senses.

The realization of The Notion involves meticulous craftsmanship and the use of high-quality materials. The table top is made of marble, while the legs of the column are crafted with sculptural precision and finished with glossy lacquer. The irregular surface of the spheres resembles boiling water bubbles, creating a visually dynamic and fluid effect under different lighting conditions.

With dimensions of 75 cm in height and 105 cm in diameter, The Notion's irregular ball-shaped legs and concave and convex glossy lacquer surface make it a captivating centerpiece in any space. The reflective properties of the lacquer surface create a play of light and shadows, adding depth and texture to the design.

Reding Ho's coffee table design is not only visually appealing but also interactive. The irregular glossy spheres become the main visual focus, reflecting different ripples from various light sources. The round and balanced shape of the side table allows it to seamlessly integrate with its surroundings, turning it into a functional artwork.

The Notion was designed and finished in Taiwan, where Reding Ho and his team brought their creative vision to life. The design process involved extensive research, drawing inspiration from the ideas of French postmodernist philosopher Gilles Deleuze. Reding Ho explored the intersection of philosophy and art, incorporating diverse structuralism and metaphysics into the design.

Overcoming creative and technical challenges, Reding Ho successfully transformed abstract thoughts and feelings into a tangible design. The refinement of the design and careful consideration of the weight-supported structure ensured the realization of this unique coffee table.

Centered on materials and finishes, The Notion speaks to the sense of touch and the chilling surface left on the finger. The glowing marble in the middle ignites contradictory emotions, evoking sensations from within. Through its materials and textures, this design piece interprets the sensory experiences and ideological contexts of artist Reding Ho.

The Notion is a testament to Reding Ho's artistic prowess and has been recognized with the prestigious A' Design Award in the Fine Arts and Art Installation Design category in 2022. This award acknowledges the design's practicality, innovation, and adherence to professional and industrial standards, contributing to a better world.
