The Gong cabinet draws its inspiration from the Gong instrument, a symbol of wealth and status in the Far East. The instrument's significance in rituals and rites, bestowing fortune and strength, is echoed in the cabinet's design. This cultural reference imbues the piece with a sense of history and depth, making it more than just a functional object.
The cabinet's unique properties lie in its blend of elegance and functionality. The two sliding doors, crafted from handmade palisander wood marquetry, open to reveal three wooden shelves, dimmable lighting, and a mirrored back panel. A tempered glass shelf at the bottom enhances the cabinet's stability and offers additional storage space. The structure and handles, made from fully loaded brass profiles, add a touch of opulence to the piece.
The Gong bar cabinet is a testament to Szumilas' mastery of design realization technology. The use of palisander wood, solid brass structure oxidized to a medium bronze finish, crystal mirror with integrated LED light, and tempered glass shelf, all contribute to the cabinet's luxurious aesthetic. The cabinet measures 1200mm x 500mm x 1700mm, making it a statement piece suitable for any interior.
The Gong bar cabinet was designed for a residential project in Beirut Downtown, completed in November 2019. The production process spanned two months, reflecting the designer's commitment to quality and detail. The cabinet's round box is painted black inside and out, with a tempered black glass shelf at the bottom. The light turns on automatically when the doors open, adding a touch of modern convenience to the piece.
The Gong bar cabinet's recognition with the Silver A' Limited Edition and Custom Design Award in 2022 underscores its design excellence. This award is given to designs that demonstrate outstanding expertise, innovation, and artistic skill. The Gong cabinet, with its blend of luxury and functionality, certainly fits this bill.
