The 'Year of the Tiger' is a unique drone show that marries technology and art to create a stunning spectacle. The design team drew inspiration from the awe-inspiring performance of the spinning earth at the 2020 Summer Olympics. The creative minds behind the project were Taiwan's original design team, while international companies supplied the drones and technology. Together, they presented Taiwan's historical and cultural context with 1,500 drones at a height of 204 meters and a horizontal span of 174 meters.
The drone show, titled 'Lights Kaohsiung', featured 1,500 drones in eight spectacular night shows over Love River Bay. The drones' light reflections on the water surface linked the sky and the river, amplifying the majestic and stunning ambiance. Another segment, 'Illuminates Taiwan', comprised the most representative images of Taiwan, showcasing the country's beauty.
The project utilized 1,500 Intel Classic Drones, lightweight drones specifically designed for performances. The LED lights, programmable with over 4 billion color combinations, could adapt to various physical performance environments. The drones' actual flight range spanned from a minimum height of 30 meters to a maximum height of 204 meters, covering a flight range of 174 meters.
The drone show was not merely a visual feast but also a cultural storytelling exhibition. The first show received rave reviews, with many spectators willing to watch the performance multiple times from different positions. This engagement not only made the show successful but also boosted tourism, dining, and lodging in the area, revitalizing the local economy.
Despite the project's success, the design team faced several challenges. Weather conditions, such as strong winds, rain, or low clouds, could damage the drones or render the performance impossible. Additionally, the large crowds resulted in significant signal interference from mobile devices. However, these hurdles did not deter the team from delivering a memorable performance.
In conclusion, the 'Year of the Tiger' drone show by the Kaohsiung City Government is a testament to the power of technology and creativity. This award-winning design, which beautifully merges art, culture, and innovation, is a shining example of how technology can be used to tell compelling stories and create unforgettable experiences.
