The Shaded House: A Nature-Inspired Self-Shading Residential Home

Creating a Sustainable and Refreshing Living Space

The Shaded House, designed by Prashant Parmar, is a unique residential home that draws inspiration from nature to create a self-shading structure. With its focus on sustainability and comfort, this house offers a refreshing living experience.

The Shaded House is a testament to the fusion of modern architecture and Indian aesthetics. It embraces minimalism while incorporating modern amenities, making it a truly unique and functional space. The design takes into consideration the local climate, ensuring that the house remains self-sustainable and maintenance-free.

One of the standout features of the Shaded House is its self-shading facade. Made of brick and concrete, the facade provides thermal comfort to the residents by protecting them from harsh sunlight. The large white frame with screening in the ceiling adds an element of elegance and creates a play of light and shadow, further enhancing the interior spaces.

The house also features elevated gardens on the south-east side, clad with wooden figured MCM. These gardens not only add a touch of greenery but also contribute to the overall cooling effect of the house. The strategic placement of balconies and size of openings allow for natural air circulation, keeping the interior spaces refreshing at all times.

Inside the Shaded House, the layout is designed to flow naturally, from common to private activities. The ground floor is well-lit and ventilated, thanks to the front garden that acts as a source of light and ventilation. Large windows throughout the house allow for an influx of natural light, creating a bright and inviting atmosphere.

The upper levels of the house consist of bedrooms, an entertainment room, and a spacious shaded terrace garden. The terrace garden, elevated in the front, visually connects all three levels and provides a serene outdoor space for relaxation and entertainment.

Located in the Paldi area of Ahmedabad, Gujarat, the Shaded House was a project that took approximately 2.5 years to complete. Throughout the design process, extensive research was conducted to ensure optimal light and ventilation. Simulations were used to study wind diagrams and plan the structure accordingly.

The Shaded House has received recognition for its outstanding design. It was awarded the Bronze A' Design Award in 2023 in the Architecture, Building, and Structure Design category. This award acknowledges the innovative and resourceful design of the house, which incorporates best practices in art, science, design, and technology.

With its nature-inspired design, sustainable features, and modern amenities, the Shaded House offers a unique and refreshing living experience. It is a testament to the harmonious blend of modern architecture and Indian aesthetics, creating a space that is both functional and visually stunning.
