Zen and People: A Tranquil Residence with Modern Humanistic Charm

Embracing Zen and Industrial Style to Create a Delicate Space

The design team led by Erian Yen brings the silent beauty of Zen into the space through colors and materials. By adopting a modern and industrial style, they have created a tranquil residence with a modern humanistic charm and Japanese Zen influence.

The project, aptly named Zen and People, is a unique take on residential design. The design team has prioritized simplicity and minimalism, eliminating complicated designs and making the texture the highlight of the space. The dark wood veneer and terrazzo, both with distinctive natural textures, complement each other, creating a serene ambiance.

To reduce the excessive volume of the space and satisfy the living needs, the design team has incorporated open bar shelving and concealed cabinets. This not only adds functionality but also maintains the clean and minimalist aesthetic. The use of common building materials, such as plaster, glass, terrazzo, and titanium plating, creates a subtle textural ambiance.

The ceiling, designed with a curved shape, serves multiple purposes. It reduces the pressure of the ceiling, creates an even diffusion of lighting, and adds a unique architectural element to the space. The choice of materials and their different reflections create a variety of visual effects, adding depth and interest to the design.

The Zen and People residence spans 68 square meters and features 3 plus 1 bedrooms and a living room. The design team has utilized the ceiling beam in the open-plan lounge area to create a different atmosphere from the living and dining room. The beam has been cleverly wrapped with dark wood veneer, creating a hidden TV wall that seamlessly blends into the overall design.

Zen is all about creating a space for relaxation and self-awareness. The open-plan public space in Zen and People is fully functional, with the living room featuring only a sofa to express the theme. Each space within the residence embodies the Zen philosophy, providing a serene and calming environment.

The Zen and People project was completed in April 2022 in Taiwan. The design team conducted extensive research to inject modern elements into the Zen space while maintaining a sense of calmness. The use of grilles in an American style and industrial-inspired plaster patterns adds depth and character to the design.

For their outstanding work, the Zen and People residence was awarded the Bronze A' Design Award in the Interior Space, Retail, and Exhibition Design category in 2023. This prestigious award recognizes designs that exhibit strong technical and creative skills, contributing to quality of life improvements and making the world a better place.

With its unique blend of Zen and industrial style, Zen and People is a testament to the power of simplicity and minimalism in creating a tranquil and harmonious living space.
