Abeam Shanghai: Redefining Workplace Design in the Post-Corona Era

Creating a Collaborative and Inspiring Office Space

Inspired by the changing work dynamics and the need for creative environments, Naoki Sawada designed Abeam Shanghai, an office space that stimulates new ways of working in the post-corona era. With a focus on teamwork and creativity, this workplace aims to enhance employee engagement and well-being.

Located on the 71st floor, Abeam Shanghai offers breathtaking views of the cityscape, maximizing the scenic beauty. The design concept is based on the Abeam brand's image color, incorporating gold accents throughout the space to create a sense of luxury and reinforce the brand identity. By striking a balance between cleanliness and opulence, the office exudes a unique charm that elevates the meaning of coming to work.

One of the key strengths of Abeam Shanghai lies in its ability to cater to the diverse needs of teams. The office features various functional areas designed to facilitate collaboration and creativity. From open workstations to private meeting rooms and breakout spaces, each area is thoughtfully crafted to provide the ideal environment for different types of work. This versatility allows teams to seamlessly transition between individual tasks and group projects, fostering a dynamic and productive work culture.

When it comes to the realization of the design, sustainability and corporate social responsibility were paramount. Recycled materials were used in the construction of the office, aligning with Abeam's commitment to environmental consciousness. This not only reflects the brand's values but also serves as a source of environmental enlightenment for employees, promoting a greener mindset.

With a total area of 2,400 square meters, Abeam Shanghai offers ample space for teams to thrive. The design team, led by Naoki Sawada, collaborated with Rao Yihua and Zhu Haiyan to bring this vision to life. Their collective expertise and attention to detail ensured that every aspect of the office was meticulously planned and executed.

Abeam Shanghai is not just a physical space; it is an interactive environment that fosters collaboration and creativity. By encouraging employees to interact and work together, the office becomes a catalyst for generating new ideas and innovative solutions. This design approach aligns with the evolving work styles and emphasizes the importance of human connection in the workplace.

The project commenced in December 2021 and was completed in November 2022. Throughout the design process, extensive research was conducted to understand the changing work landscape and the desired work experiences of employees. This user-centric approach ensured that the final design effectively bridged the gap between traditional and future work styles.

Abeam Shanghai has been recognized for its exceptional design with the Bronze A' Design Award in the Interior Space, Retail, and Exhibition Design category in 2023. This prestigious accolade celebrates designs that exhibit resourcefulness, creativity, and technical excellence. By incorporating best practices in art, science, design, and technology, Abeam Shanghai contributes to improving the quality of life and sets a benchmark for workplace design.
