Cream Summerlin stands out from other ice cream shops due to its unique and distinctive design. The goal was to create a space that is simple, charming, and exudes a sense of joy. To achieve this, the designer used simple materials, unique lighting, and a variety of colors. The playfulness of the shop is intensified by the blue and yellow lighting, while the blue, yellow, white, and brown colors of the materials amplify the happy energies.
Every form, light, and color in Cream Summerlin is carefully chosen to be related to cold ice cream and warm cookies, making the design even more distinctive. The combination of white surfaces with blue tiles and LED lighting creates an inviting and clean ambiance for customers. Additionally, the use of LED lighting not only enhances the aesthetics but also contributes to energy savings.
To create a unique experience, the designer wanted to bring the freshly baked smell of cookies to arouse customers' appetites. This was achieved through the use of oven exhaust technology. The space itself spans 210 square meters with two entrances across two sides. Simple materials, shiny surfaces with white and blue tiles, stainless steel finishes, and stained concrete floors contribute to the overall modern and sleek design.
Customers enter Cream Summerlin and stand in line to choose their ice cream flavor and cookie. As they wait, they can enjoy the happy atmosphere of the shop and appreciate the thoughtful design elements. The project started in November 2014 and was completed in March 2015, with Cream Summerlin located in Las Vegas, Nevada, USA.
The design of Cream Summerlin was driven by the principles of simplicity, attraction, fun environment, and cost-saving. The challenge lay in creating a visually appealing space with limited colors and finishes. However, by focusing on forms, surfaces, and shapes, and incorporating dynamic lighting and reflection, the designer successfully captured the essence of Cream Summerlin, particularly its location in vibrant Las Vegas.
Cream Summerlin is a testament to the power of design in creating a joyful and memorable experience. By closely examining the elements that define the ice cream shop - warm cookies and cold ice cream - Hootan Hamedani has crafted a space that is simple yet playful. The design has been recognized with an Iron A' Design Award in 2016, highlighting its well-designed, practical, and innovative qualities that contribute to a better world.
