Chandigarh's Essence Captured in ACME's New Office by Karan Arora

Brutalist-Inspired Workspace Wins A' Design Award for Innovation

Embracing the raw beauty of Chandigarh, Karan Arora's latest office design for ACME merges local familiarity with international appeal, earning a prestigious Bronze A' Design Award.

ACME's new office space, situated in the heart of a burgeoning district near Chandigarh, stands as a testament to modern functionality and experiential design. Karan Arora, the visionary behind this project, has meticulously crafted a workspace that is both a nod to the city's brutalist architecture and a leap into contemporary office design. The 8000 sq ft area, initially an open floor plan, has been transformed into a cohesive, dynamic environment that fosters creativity and productivity.

The design's strength lies in its harmonious blend of materials and finishes, which come together to create a unique spatial experience. The monolithic concrete floor anchors the space, while high ceilings, classic wooden blinds, and bespoke furniture guide the eye to the dramatic ceiling installation. This attention to detail is not just aesthetic but also functional, as seen in the open office area, where the statement ceiling and strategic use of the color yellow invigorate the work surfaces.

Studio Vasaka's approach to the ACME office interior defies conventional design by incorporating a brutalist material palette in a sleek and modern fashion. The interplay of exposed concrete, brick, wood, and metal throughout the office exudes a raw yet refined elegance. Glass partition walls ensure a sense of connectivity across the workspace, while the exposed ceilings maximize the use of vertical space.

Natural light plays a pivotal role in the design, as it floods through the windows, animating the volumes, surfaces, and materials. This interplay not only enhances the visual appeal of the space but also promotes a healthy and energizing work environment. The design team's vision for the office is not only to serve as a functional space but also to reflect the ethos of the brand and organization.

The project, which commenced in January 2023 and concluded by December of the same year, has been recognized for its innovative design and contribution to the field. The Bronze A' Design Award in Interior Space, Retail, and Exhibition Design Award in 2024 celebrates the project's exceptional design quality and its impact on enhancing the quality of life. Karan Arora's ACME office design stands as a beacon of creativity, showcasing how a deep understanding of local context combined with global design standards can result in award-winning spaces.

Photographed by Vaibhav Passi, the ACME office is not just a workspace but a statement of design excellence. It is a space where every detail is crafted with precision, from the furniture to the floor, embodying the spirit of Chandigarh and setting a new benchmark for office design.
