Transforming a Used Factory into a Multi-Functional Headquarters

In the project "Weaving Space," a used factory building in Dongguan, China, was transformed into a multi-functional headquarters that includes a showroom, a catwalk, and a design office. The façade of the building is made up of densely arranged extruded aluminum walls, giving it the appearance of a large coffer that bars unauthorized access.

Inside the building, the same extrusions with lower density are used as partitions, creating semi-transparent spaces that encourage communication between franchisees and designers. This innovative design allows for a dynamic and collaborative work environment.

To preserve the charm of the old factory, the design team, led by Lam Wai Ming and Design Systems Ltd, used terrazzo and steel angles to create a neutral background. They also introduced glossy and refined elements such as polished marble staircases and crystal chandeliers, adding a touch of elegance and a refreshing brand identity.

The "Weaving Space" design showcases the versatility of aluminum extrusions and their ability to transform a space into a functional and visually appealing environment. By combining elements of fashion, branding, and corporate identity, this project has created a unique and inspiring headquarters.

This innovative design was recognized with the Iron A' Design Award in 2012. This prestigious award is given to well-designed, practical, and innovative creations that meet professional and industrial requirements. The "Weaving Space" design stands out for its integration of industry best practices, competent technical characteristics, and its contribution to a better world.
