Commercial Area, SJD Airport: A Green and Futuristic Design

Aerodynamic Vanguard Design and Organic Cell Concept

Since the initial planning phase of the project, Sanzpont [arquitectura] aimed to create a contemporary and homogeneous commercial architectural image for the San Jose del Cabo Airport. Inspired by aerodynamic design and aeronautical integration, the design features curved lines that reflect vanguardism and innovation.

This project joins the new trend in green design airports around the world, making it the first of its kind in Mexico. The commercial area at Terminal 2 of San Jose del Cabo Airport incorporates spaces of a greener and more sustainable design value, positioning Grupo Aeroportuario del Pacífico as a top vanguardist corporation in Mexico.

The commercial area space is illuminated by natural sunlight, thanks to a monumental glass façade facing the runway. This design choice not only creates a visually stunning environment but also generates significant energy savings in lighting throughout the day, contributing to a more sustainable commercial atmosphere.

The interior space of the commercial area is designed as an outside commercial corridor, providing passengers with a futuristic urban experience. The aim is to create enjoyable spaces and a pleasant stay while waiting for their flight. One standout feature is the Food Court Area, which draws inspiration from a picnic concept surrounded by natural vegetation. Passengers can relax and enjoy their meals on an artificial grass floor, creating an outdoor environment of relaxation and comfort.

The VIP Waiting Room is another highlight of the design, featuring an organic and vanguardist cell design concept. The façade is made using a Voronoi type porous skin, which allows privacy in the room without blocking the view to the exterior. The architectural team utilized experimental parametric digital techniques to design this complex façade, resulting in a unique and visually striking space.

The choice of materials played a crucial role in realizing this design. The team selected Alucobond, a light composite material consisting of two aluminum cover sheets and a polyethylene core, as the main façade material. This material not only provides an aeronautical appearance but also offers versatility, stability, and flexibility.

The San Jose del Cabo Airport commercial area project is a testament to the innovative and sustainable design approach of Sanzpont [arquitectura]. By incorporating green design elements, creating enjoyable spaces, and utilizing cutting-edge technology, this design sets a new standard for airport commercial areas.
