Bamboo House: A Health Meditation Club

Creating a Space for Relaxation and Self-Cultivation

Inspired by the beauty of natural lighting and the harmony between nature and humanity, Baohua Li designed Bamboo House as a health meditation club. Located in the heart of Jingdezhen, this unique space offers physical and mental therapies, providing visitors with a tranquil environment to relax and purify their souls.

The design of Bamboo House revolves around three key elements: lighting and shadow, dynamic and static, and nature and humanity. By combining natural lighting with indoor lighting, as well as blending indoor and outdoor spaces, the club creates a consistent and ever-changing atmosphere.

Spanning an area of 800 square meters, Bamboo House is divided into three distinct areas: a tea house, a moxibustion room, and a vegetarian meal area. Each space is carefully designed to cater to different therapies and activities, such as tea drinking, visitor receiving, and moxibustion.

One of the unique features of Bamboo House is its use of bamboo as the primary material. Bamboo not only adds a touch of natural elegance to the space but also symbolizes the continuity and inheritance of traditional Chinese culture. By successfully reinventing the use of bamboo in a contemporary setting, Baohua Li showcases the versatility and beauty of this traditional material.

The design team, which includes Baohua Li, Jiali Shou, and Hangzhou Great Scale Architectural Design Co., Ltd, faced several challenges during the design process. They had to strike a balance between the rapid urbanization in China and the need to preserve and promote traditional culture. The result is a space that seamlessly blends modernity with tradition, creating a serene and inviting atmosphere.

Bamboo House was completed in 2015 in Jingdezhen, China. It serves as a testament to the designer's dedication to creating spaces that promote relaxation, self-cultivation, and contemplation. Visitors to Bamboo House can expect to be immersed in a world of classicality, earthiness, elegance, and seclusion.

Recognized for its outstanding design and innovation, Bamboo House was awarded the Silver A' Design Award in 2016 in the Interior Space, Retail, and Exhibition Design category. This prestigious award is a testament to the club's exceptional craftsmanship, technical excellence, and ability to evoke positive emotions in its visitors.
