Sacred Touch stands out from other exhibition designs due to its integration of traditional arts and crafts with modern design and technology. It serves as a platform for reciprocal aid, where the wisdom of traditional communities negates the homogenizing influences of modern technology, while the intelligence and creativity afforded by modern technology reciprocally help traditional artists. The result is a new form of experience that involves interactive art and technology, traditional crafts, and modern design.
The realization of Sacred Touch involves the use of Asian handicrafts and custom embedded computing technology. This combination creates a seamless blend of ancient techniques and modern innovation, providing visitors with a truly immersive and captivating experience.
Each project within Sacred Touch has its own unique specifications. The Eternal Gandhi Multimedia Museum spans 8000 sqft and was realized between 2003 and 2005 in New Delhi, India. The Crossing Project, also covering 8000 sqft, was completed between 2000 and 2002 in New Delhi. The Planet Health Museum, with a size of 20,000 sqft, was established in 2010 in New Delhi. Lastly, the Star Museum, spanning 8000 sqft, was developed between 2008 and 2011 in Rajasthan, India.
Through extensive research, Ranjit discovered the importance of preserving traditional arts and crafts in a rapidly urbanizing world. By bridging the gap between techno-and traditional cultures, Sacred Touch aims to support village arts and aesthetics while promoting technological innovation. The exhibition showcases the potential for equitable development, where innovation and traditional culture go hand in hand.
Sacred Touch has received recognition for its groundbreaking approach. It was awarded the Iron A' Design Award in 2012 for its well-designed, practical, and innovative creations. This accolade acknowledges the exhibition's ability to meet professional and industrial requirements while contributing to a better world.
Sacred Touch, designed by Makkuni Ranjit, is a testament to the power of blending tradition and technology. By creating a space that celebrates the wisdom of traditional communities and the possibilities of modern innovation, this exhibition design offers visitors a unique and enlightening experience.
