The design was inspired by the famous tale of Aladdin and the Wonderful Lamp. Vola reimagined the traditional lamp with fluid shapes and current materials, creating a unique piece that bridges the gap between ancient lore and modern technology. The lamp, made of black carbon fiber epoxy resin, responds to the lightest touch, turning on, off, and dimming with ease.
Named '...quel genio di Arturo!', this fantasy object is dedicated to Arturo Brachetti, an internationally acclaimed quick-change actor. The lamp's design is not just aesthetically pleasing but also interactive, encouraging users to engage with the lamp's brightness and metaphorically express their desires.
The lamp's production involved complex processes, particularly the creation of the carbon fiber shell, which required meticulous hand finishing. Despite these challenges, Vola and her team, including resin modeler Michele Garofalo, successfully brought the design to life. The lamp can be customized, making it suitable for limited edition production or mass manufacturing.
The design was developed in Italy between 2011 and 2012, and a prototype was presented to Brachetti during his performance at SD26 San Domenico in New York in July 2012. The lamp has since received international recognition, winning the Golden A' Fine Arts and Art Installation Design Award in 2013. This prestigious award is granted to outstanding creations that reflect the designer's prodigy and wisdom, embodying extraordinary excellence and significantly impacting the world with their desirable characteristics.
With its enchanting design and innovative features, '...quel genio di Arturo!' is more than just a lamp. It is a piece of art that brings a sense of magic and wonder to any space, be it private or public, such as hotels, restaurants, spas, and yacht interiors. Vola's design is a shining example of how storytelling and innovation can come together to create something truly remarkable.
