A floating resort and marine observatory, Pearl Atlantis is an architectural marvel that aims to boost awareness of marine biodiversity conservation while providing a unique tourist experience.

The inspiration for Pearl Atlantis came from a simple yet profound realization: humans live on a planet dominated by water, yet few truly live with it or in it. As the earth's surface gradually succumbs to the effects of climate change, the concept of sustainable floating architecture emerges as a radical yet potentially life-saving solution. The Pearl Atlantis, set to be located in the Cagayan Ridge Marine Biodiversity Corridor in the Sulu Sea, is a testament to this innovative approach.

What sets Pearl Atlantis apart from other architectural projects is its unique blend of design and function. The resort is composed of numerous vessels, each employing a modular technique in their hull design. This allows for different configurations and infinite possibilities for expansion. The entire structure is designed with sustainability in mind, prioritizing energy efficiency, renewable energy, and the use of non-chemically treated materials. Furthermore, the resort incorporates algaculture, recognizing the potential of algae as a fast-growing, versatile, and sustainable resource.

The Pearl Atlantis is more than just a resort; it's an interactive experience. Security and risk management are integral to the design, with security office modules and sonar-equipped surface vessels ensuring the safety of guests. The unique design and function of the building are expected to attract tourists from all over the world, offering an experience that is both unique and aesthetically pleasing.

The project, which served as Garcia Cruz's graduation thesis, was conceptualized and developed between November 2010 and April 2012. The research methods employed included descriptive/statistical research, nature observation, spatial analysis, field research, data collection, and archival research. One of the key challenges was designing a structure that could adapt to the changing environmental state caused by global warming and serve as a retreat/evacuation facility in case of a major disaster.

The Pearl Atlantis project has been recognized for its innovative and forward-thinking design, winning the Golden A' Futuristic Design Award in 2013. This prestigious award is granted to creations that reflect the designer's prodigy and wisdom, embodying extraordinary excellence and significantly impacting the world with their desirable characteristics. With its unique blend of sustainability, innovation, and design, the Pearl Atlantis is indeed a deserving recipient of this accolade.
