Cat: A Film to Show Architecture

Exploring Space Through the Eyes of a Kitten

The emotions a film can create by leading the spectator through a spatial viewfinder was the initial inspiration behind Cat, a unique architectural film created by Studiomk27.

Studiomk27, a renowned architectural studio based in São Paulo, found inspiration in the way films evoke emotions and guide the viewer's perspective. Drawing from their admiration for Tati films, they conceived the idea of twisting the observer's point of view by imagining how a cat would see and feel a space.

Cat is the result of the studio's second stage of spatial thinking, where they explore the principles of cinema art in their architectural designs. The film captures the widescreen proportions, the importance of lighting, and the different view framings that the studio employs when creating buildings.

The film aims to share the spatial experience and tell a story through the eyes of a kitten. The owner's family graciously agreed to participate in the film, with the only actor being Dudu, a trained cat. By immersing the audience in the perspective of a feline, Cat offers a unique and captivating way to engage with architecture.

Studiomk27's team, consisting of talented individuals such as Beatriz Meyer, Gabriel Kogan, and Marcio Kogan, among others, contributed their expertise to bring Cat to life. Their collective efforts resulted in a film that beautifully captures the essence of architectural design.

Located in São Paulo, Brazil, Cat showcases the studio's commitment to pushing boundaries and exploring new ways to communicate the spatial experience. It serves as a testament to the studio's innovative approach and dedication to merging art, architecture, and technology.

In recognition of its excellence and innovation, Cat was awarded the Silver A' Design Award in the Movie, Video, and Animation Design category in 2013. This prestigious accolade is reserved for designs that demonstrate outstanding expertise, creativity, and technical skill. Cat's ability to evoke positive emotions and wonder through its remarkable storytelling earned it this well-deserved recognition.

With Cat, Studiomk27 has successfully created a film that not only showcases their architectural prowess but also captivates audiences with its unique perspective. By inviting viewers to experience space through the eyes of a kitten, Cat offers a fresh and engaging way to appreciate the art of architecture.
