Revolutionizing Urban Spaces: Lohas by Yu Wen Chiu

Award-Winning Restaurant Design that Slows Down Urban Life

Yu Wen Chiu, a renowned designer, has created a unique restaurant design, "Lohas," that challenges the fast-paced rhythm of urban life. This design, which won the Golden A' Interior Space, Retail and Exhibition Design Award in 2014, offers a tranquil oasis amidst the city's hustle and bustle.

Yu Wen Chiu's design inspiration for Lohas stemmed from the concept of "Yuan-King," which translates to "Back to Nature" in Chinese. The designer aimed to create a space where visitors could relax and connect with nature, even in a busy urban setting. The restaurant's design, therefore, is a revolt against the urban beat, aiming to slow down time and allow visitors to savor each moment.

The restaurant is located at a bustling traffic intersection, a choice that further emphasizes its role as a peaceful haven amidst chaos. The overall spatial plan is designed to create a mellow and settled pace. The space is divided based on functionality through medium planning, forming an open, fluid, and transparent space while maintaining the divisions of various compartments.

One of the unique properties of Lohas is its totem-like screens, which add a congenial playfulness to the mellow spatial ambiance. These screens guide the eye line, creating a sense of openness and fluidity. The ingenuous arrangement of space also allows for privacy amidst the compartments, enhancing the overall user experience.

The restaurant, covering about 400 square meters, is realized using a variety of materials including wood skin, grey glass, grey mirror, culture stone, and metal. The use of these materials further enhances the natural and relaxed vibe of the space, aligning with the "Back to Nature" inspiration.

The Lohas project started in March 2013 and was completed in June 2013 in Taiwan. Since its completion, it has been recognized for its innovative design, winning the prestigious Golden A' Interior Space, Retail and Exhibition Design Award in 2014. This award is granted to marvelous, outstanding, and trendsetting creations that reflect the designer's prodigy and wisdom, significantly impacting the world with their desirable characteristics.

In conclusion, Yu Wen Chiu's Lohas is a testament to the power of design in transforming urban spaces. By creating a tranquil haven amidst the city's hustle and bustle, Lohas offers a unique dining experience that slows down time and allows visitors to connect with nature. With its innovative design and award-winning recognition, Lohas is set to inspire future designs in the urban landscape.
