XAVIER HOUY's COGITO: A Revolutionary Blend of Style and Technology

COGITO, the Bluetooth Connected Watch, Redefines Smart Device Interaction

Imagine a device that reduces the need to constantly check your smartphone, a device that makes every interaction purpose-driven. This is the vision behind the COGITO watch, a revolutionary product designed by XAVIER HOUY. This article delves into the unique properties, design process, and the innovative technology behind COGITO, a design that has won the prestigious Golden A' Jewelry, Eyewear and Watch Design Award in 2014.

COGITO stands out in the realm of smartwatches with its unique properties. Equipped with an easy-to-scan, high contrast pixel display, it provides detailed information through custom icons, caller ID, and the number of pending notifications. The user can dismiss notifications with a quick double-tap of the watch's dial, or acknowledge them with a single tap. When paired with the COGITO CONNECTED WATCH app, it simplifies life by reducing interruptions and the urge to check your phone, giving you control even when it is out of reach.

Unlike typical smartwatches that require frequent recharging, COGITO uses Bluetooth® 4.0 LE wireless technology, enabling it to last six months or more on a single, standard user-replaceable CR2032 button-cell battery. This innovative approach to power management sets COGITO apart from its competitors, offering users a seamless and uninterrupted experience.

The design specifications of COGITO are meticulously crafted to ensure both functionality and style. It features an analog clock and a digital display for notifications, six LCD icons on the watch dial, and a dot matrix display for enhanced notifications. The watch is water-resistant and available in various colors, catering to diverse aesthetic preferences. The app supports iOS7 and select Android 4.3/4.4 Bluetooth SMART-ready devices.

The interaction with COGITO is intuitive and user-friendly. The watch is equipped with a Tap to Act™ contextual interface driven by a smart accelerometer system. Users can dismiss notifications with a quick double-tap of the watch's face, or acknowledge notifications with a single tap. The high-output electroluminescent (EL) backlight illuminates the display in the dark when the watch face or any button is tapped.

The design of COGITO was a journey that started in March 2013 in Seattle, USA, and concluded in Hong Kong in October 2013. The project involved extensive research to understand the behavior of "Smart Device" users and analyze the gaps in product offerings in the market. The challenge of designing a watch with two completely independent systems, each with its own battery, while maintaining a reasonable thickness and a battery life of about a year, was successfully overcome.

In conclusion, COGITO, designed by XAVIER HOUY, is a testament to the power of innovative design and technology. It is a product that not only simplifies life but also redefines the way we interact with smart devices. The COGITO watch is a perfect blend of style, functionality, and technology, a design that truly deserves the prestigious Golden A' Jewelry, Eyewear and Watch Design Award it has been honored with.
