Timeless Elegance: Tina Gorjanc's Conceptual Fashion Collection "Moment"

Exploring the Intersection of Fashion, Time, and Material Innovation

Unveiling the conceptual fashion collection "Moment" by Tina Gorjanc, an exploration of timelessness through innovative material manipulation and design. This award-winning collection redefines the boundaries of fashion and design, launching a new perspective into the world of design.

Designer Tina Gorjanc's conceptual fashion collection, "Moment," is inspired by the theory of the moment and the timelessness of clothing. The collection transcends the sociological and historical perceptions of legendary clothing items, such as the little black dress, and launches these garments in a new light in the design world. The collection is a unique interpretation of timelessness, not just based on the historical and sociological background usually attributed to objects, but also interpreting their independence from time through the very form of the garments.

What sets "Moment" apart is its unique approach to material and form. The collection simulates the frozen moment on textile fabric by applying techniques that involve working and experimenting with different kinds of materials, including liquid latex, polyurethane varnish, and metal. The silhouettes thus obtained create the illusion of the force of nature affecting the form of the garment, a testament to Gorjanc's innovative approach to design.

The realization of "Moment" involved a combination of techniques such as wire modelling, airbrush, casting, sewing, and pattern design. The materials used include polyurethane varnish, liquid latex, metal fibres textile, 100% wool textile, and waxed cotton textile. The collection was developed over nine months, with the finished products' staged procedures taking place in parallel, restricting the production time to two months.

Despite being conceived as a concept and not intended for everyday wear, the designed garments are wearable and can be cleaned with appropriate products and cleaning procedures. Some pieces allow more mobility than others, allocating them with different purposes in the sphere of performance and costume design. The collection was presented at the Bachelors presentation in September 2012 at the Faculty of Natural Sciences in Ljubljana, Slovenia.

The research for "Moment" focused on evaluating existing reports about material characteristics and their incorporation into garments. This took place in parallel with the physical testing itself as the two phases were conditioning one another. The materials were tested based on their appropriateness for their use on skin, the capability to freeze the textile into shapes imitating the base sculptures, and the necessity to keep the finished garment as light as possible.

The collection's strength lies in its theoretical inspiration, not deriving from an existing design. Therefore, the information supporting the making process and the results analysis researching similar experiments were minimal. Without a base supporting the processes used to develop the garments, the research was mostly oriented towards evaluating material characteristics and their use in the sphere of design, as well as applying the gained information in the experiments exploring different manufacturing techniques.

For its outstanding expertise and innovation, "Moment" was awarded Silver in A' Fashion, Apparel and Garment Design Award in 2015. The Silver A' Design Award is rewarded to top-of-the-line, creative, and professionally remarkable designs that illustrate outstanding expertise and innovation. These designs, admired for their strong technical characteristics and splendid artistic skill, showcase a remarkable level of excellence and introduce positive feelings, amazement, and wonder.
