Oak Project: Handmade Fashion by Leila Doroodchi

Creating Sustainable and Creative Knitwear Inspired by Nature

Leila Doroodchi, a renowned designer, draws inspiration from the Zagros Oak Forests of Iran to create the Oak Project, a collection of handmade fashion. With a focus on sustainability and creativity, this unique collection showcases the beauty of nature through intricate knitwear designs.

The Oak Project stands out from other fashion designs due to its commitment to sustainable production. Unlike industrial processes, every piece in the collection is meticulously handcrafted, taking approximately 100-120 hours to complete a single cape. The use of natural wool ensures that the garments are environmentally friendly and long-lasting, reflecting the designer's dedication to creating high-quality, durable fashion.

The realization of the Oak Project involves skilled artisans who weave the designs by hand, without the use of any industrial machines. The only tools employed are two knitting needles, showcasing the craftsmanship and attention to detail that goes into each piece. Quality control is paramount throughout the production process, ensuring that every knitwear item meets the highest standards.

Leila Doroodchi's designs draw from a rich cultural heritage, incorporating elements from Qashqai designs and historical Kashan Sialk Pottery motifs. The result is a collection that seamlessly blends traditional art forms with contemporary fashion. The patterns in the Oak Project resemble the intricate weaving procedures of hand-woven carpets, adding a touch of elegance and sophistication to each garment.

The Oak Project was brought to life in Tehran, with the project commencing in April 2020 and concluding in September 2021. The collection was later exhibited at the Zaafaranie art studio in November 2021, showcasing the exquisite craftsmanship and artistic vision behind each piece.

Leila Doroodchi's dedication to research and exploration is evident in the Oak Project. Extensive studies of Qashqai designs and field research on nomadic tribes laid the foundation for this collection. The designer's passion for nature shines through, as the Oak Project captures the essence of trees and animals living freely in their natural habitats.

The Oak Project has received recognition for its outstanding design and innovation. It was awarded the Iron A' Design Award in the Fashion, Apparel, and Garment Design category in 2022. This prestigious accolade celebrates designs that are well-crafted, practical, and innovative, meeting professional and industrial requirements.

Leila Doroodchi's Oak Project is a testament to the beauty of handmade fashion and the harmony between art and nature. By embracing sustainable practices and drawing inspiration from the natural world, this collection offers a unique and captivating approach to knitwear design.
