Lee's inspiration for 'My Own Stadium' was born out of a desire to blend two seemingly opposite elements - the masculine world of sports and the serene beauty of traditional Asian garments. The collection draws heavily from NFL sports gear and boxing shorts, resulting in a range of designs that are both athletic and oriental in nature.
The designer's vision was to create a collection that would appeal to a woman who is both artistic and sophisticated. The woman Lee designs for craves wearable designs that are subtly conceptual and make her feel both sexy and sophisticated. This mood is captured perfectly in 'My Own Stadium', a collection that is filled with athletic orientalism and sexy sophistication.
One of the unique aspects of Lee's collection is the use of unique fabrics. Materials such as polyethylene and polypropylene, derived from Tyvek and sandbags, have been used to create sophisticated sculptural forms. Despite being lightweight, these fabrics hold the shapes of each look effectively, adding to the collection's overall appeal.
The collection, which consists of six looks in US size 6, was created over a period of nine months, starting in January 2016 in San Francisco and finishing in September 2016. It was exhibited in New York in the same month. The collection was awarded the Golden A' Design Award in the Fashion, Apparel and Garment Design category in 2017.
Despite the challenges faced during the creation of the collection, such as the sensitivity of the materials to heat, Lee's 'My Own Stadium' stands as a testament to her creativity and skill. The collection, which is designed for the type of woman Lee aspires to be, makes a strong conceptual statement. What was once men's sportswear has been transformed into women's power wear, becoming each woman's own stadium.
