The 3M PTL Kit, designed by Lawrens Tan, is an innovative educational kit that aims to teach children about eye care and the advantages of using 3M Polarizing Light technology. This kit is exclusively given out to children who purchase a 3M Polarizing Light, providing them with valuable information in a fun and interactive way.

The main inspiration behind the design was to create a kit that would generate excitement and curiosity in both the buyer and the product. The kit features interactive elements and contemporary design, making it engaging for children. The use of playful rainbow icons adds a sense of fun to the folder, and children can personalize it by writing their names on the yellow tag, creating a sense of ownership and pride.

One of the unique properties of the 3M PTL Kit is its focus on educating children about eye care tips and the benefits of 3M Polarizing Light technology. The kit includes loose sheets of information about the products and their characteristics, making it contemporary and informative. By reinforcing the message that "3M Polarizing Light protects [Child's name] eyes," the kit gives children and their parents the assurance of the lamp's effectiveness.

To further enhance the impact of the design, an exclusive "3M Polarizing Light Protects My Eyes" badge is included in the kit. The 3M PTL Kit was realized using the concept of a checkup file, which was modified to create a fun and interactive kit. The use of vibrant illustrations and a die-cut flap on the inside adds to the overall style and appeal of the design. Additionally, the badge design allows children to pin it on their favorite bags or clothes, further spreading the message about the benefits of 3M Polarizing Light.

Technical specifications of the 3M PTL Kit include a size of 158mm (w) x 210mm (h) for the kit design, full-color printing, and an A5-sized leaflet inside. The badge design measures 58mm in diameter.

The 3M PTL Kit project started in February 2014 and was completed in June 2014. Throughout the design process, the team faced challenges in establishing a sense of ownership and capturing the attention of the audience. The solution was to make the folder customizable and attractive, allowing children to feel a sense of pride in owning the design. The exclusive badge design also created a hype and encouraged children to share their knowledge with others.

The 3M PTL Kit has received recognition for its creative and ingenious design. It was awarded the Bronze A' Design Award in the Advertising, Marketing, and Communication Design category in 2015. This award recognizes designs that demonstrate technical and creative skills, contribute to quality of life improvements, and make the world a better place.
