The exhibition, located in the KGB Building in Riga, Latvia, merges 10 rooms, 10 main objects, and 10 storylines to create a cohesive narrative. Each room is designed to evoke a specific emotional experience, using video projections, lighting, sound, and scenographical elements to engage visitors.
The exhibition covers an area of 228 m2 and features a variety of materials, including glass, digital print, wood board, accordion-pleated cardboard, chipboard, wooden beams, metal net, barbed wire, cotton fabric, and old authentic furniture.
Visitors enter the exhibition and are immediately immersed in a transformative experience as they move from room to room. The authentic objects interact with visitors, inviting them to understand the historical context and reconstruct the stories behind them. Audio, video, and lighting enhance the interaction, creating a multi-sensory journey.
The project, which started in November 2013 and finished in October 2014, was a result of extensive qualitative research. The stories behind the objects were carefully selected and bolted to create a compelling narrative. The design team faced the challenge of finding expressive means that would be both emotionally engaging and budget-friendly.
