HK Young Fashion Designers' Contest 2014

The Evolution of Design Ideas

The metamorphic and kaleidoscopic graphic in the official brochure of the HK Young Fashion Designers' Contest 2014 reflects the concept that design ideas are sparked off after numerous collisions and fusions of varied trivial elements. Like genes and cells under a microscope, these ideas are constantly changing and evolving, influenced by our upbringing, taste, and life experiences.

Launched by the Hong Kong Trade Development Council in 1977, the HK Young Fashion Designers' Contest (HKYDC) has become the most prestigious event of its kind in the region. It plays a vital role in nurturing and identifying fashion design talent. Many past contestants have gone on to become leading designers in the local fashion and garment industries, while others have successfully launched their own labels.

The official brochure of the contest, with dimensions of 29cm (h) x 23cm (w), showcases not only the works of the competition but also the souls of individuals with interesting points of view and insights that deserve attention. The graphic design captures the essence of the contest, highlighting the ever-evolving nature of design ideas.

The HKYDC brochure, with its metamorphic and kaleidoscopic visuals, serves as a testament to the creativity and innovation that the contest aims to foster. It represents the collision and fusion of ideas, resulting in unique and original designs. The brochure not only showcases the talent of young fashion designers but also serves as an inspiration for future generations.

Photography for the brochure was done by Ken Ngan, while the creative direction was led by Azia Chau, Benny Woo, and Siuming Leung. Their vision and expertise brought the concept to life, capturing the essence of the contest and the ever-evolving nature of design ideas.

In recognition of its outstanding and creatively ingenious design, the HK Young Fashion Designers' Contest 2014 brochure was awarded the Bronze A' Design Award in the Print and Published Media Design category in 2015. This prestigious award is bestowed upon designs that authenticate experience and resourcefulness, incorporating best practices in art, science, design, and technology. The HKYDC brochure exhibits strong technical and creative skills, contributing to quality of life improvements and making the world a better place.
