Identifying the main challenges at hand, Giftseries Sdn. Bhd. aimed to create a memorable piece of design that goes beyond showcasing product visuals and prices. The goal was to generate a higher level of appreciation for classical music and traditional folk art, particularly among the younger generation.
The front page of the catalog is designed to look like the sleeve of a vinyl record. When opened, consumers are greeted with a vinyl spinning on a record player. The cleverly designed vinyl visual, when flipped open, reveals the album track listing, which serves as the content page of the catalog.
The catalog specifications include a front and back cover made of 260gsm Art Card, a contents page made of 230gsm Art Card, and inner pages made of 105gsm Matt Art Paper. The catalog consists of 34 pages, including the front and back cover, and is printed in full color. It measures 19.5cm x 19.5cm and features a 1-side matt lamination, die-cut on the cover and back cover, die-cut on the contents page, and silver stamping on the chop (cover). The binding is staple bind.
With so many catalogs circulating in the market, Giftseries Sdn. Bhd. faced the challenge of creating a design that would stand out and be memorable. The Classical Raya catalog achieves this by incorporating elements of nostalgia and music, capturing the spirit of Hari Raya and evoking a sense of appreciation for traditional arts.
The Classical Raya catalog project started in May 2013 and was completed in June 2013 in Malaysia. The design team behind this unique catalog includes Creative Director Tony Wong, Copywriter Tay Huey Teng, and Graphic Designer Vincent Teoh.
This exceptional design has been recognized with the Silver A' Design Award in the Advertising, Marketing, and Communication Design category in 2015. The award acknowledges the outstanding expertise and innovation demonstrated by the Classical Raya catalog, which showcases remarkable technical characteristics and splendid artistic skill. It successfully introduces positive feelings, amazement, and wonder to its audience.
