Wild Abandon: A Unique Twist on Residential Design

Wild Abandon is a residential house that breaks away from conventional design norms, offering a refreshing take on spacious living. Designed by Emily Chang, this unique project combines a clean-cut aesthetic with low maintenance features, creating a comfortable and functional living space.

One of the standout features of Wild Abandon is the clever use of black and white tones, with a touch of vibrant colors. This design choice creates an open and inviting atmosphere, perfect for hosting gatherings and frequent cooking. The kitchen seamlessly extends into the dining area, with a wet kitchen and a separate dry kitchen. The living area has been relocated to a new dining corner near the outdoors, providing a refreshing and airy dining experience.

The design of Wild Abandon also maximizes space by removing walls and creating a cozy relaxation corner in one of the bedrooms. The result is a spacious and versatile living environment that caters to the needs of modern living.

The realization of Wild Abandon involved the use of high-quality materials and cutting-edge technology. Glossy marble floor tiles and black acrylic panels create a sleek and sophisticated look in the living area. Quartz countertops were chosen for the kitchen, ensuring easy maintenance and durability. The use of black aluminum frames with clear glass doors helps to separate the balcony and the cozy corner while extending the visual space of the living area. Stainless steel materials were used in the cooking area, along with aluminum roller shutters for space-saving convenience.

With a total area of 1,600 square feet, Wild Abandon is a stunning example of innovative residential design. This project, located in Singapore, was completed in just three months, starting in August 2014 and handed over to the homeowner in October 2014.

Emily Chang, the mastermind behind Wild Abandon, drew inspiration from the concept of simplicity. Extensive research was conducted on bachelor's pads and Chinese hawker vendors to ensure the design captured the essence of both comfort and functionality. The challenges faced during the design process, such as choosing the right color scheme and strategically removing walls, were overcome with meticulous planning and attention to detail.

Wild Abandon has received recognition for its outstanding design. It was awarded the Silver A' Design Award in 2015 in the Interior Space, Retail, and Exhibition Design category. This prestigious award celebrates designs that showcase exceptional expertise, innovation, and artistic skill.
