Scenorgraphy Interior: A Unique Blend of Stage Design and Home Architecture

A Residential Loft Designed by Ivan Cheng

Inspired by the dramatic sets of a theater, Ivan Cheng's Scenorgraphy Interior brings together Chinese and Western elements to create a one-of-a-kind living space. With its clever use of stage design techniques, this residential loft showcases a blend of different scenarios, creating a leisurely and comfortable home atmosphere.

Within the 110 sq.m. loft space, Cheng expertly combines sunlight and shade, rich and warm colors, and a confluence of Chinese and Western design elements. The result is a visually stunning and inviting space that seamlessly integrates different areas.

The entrance to the loft sets the stage for what lies beyond. Distinctive black and white tones in the porch perfectly complement each other, creating an air of mystery. Behind a half-drawn red curtain, a small room is revealed, divided into a living room and study by a simple two-meter-wide partition. The clever use of space maximizes functionality, with a strong visual contrast and impact reminiscent of a rotating stage set.

The loft also features a unique floor height space, created by an arc architectural pattern and S-shaped interlayer trim. This design not only evokes the classic and bright atmosphere of a church but also brings the outdoor scenery into the room, creating a courtyard that combines Chinese and Western styles.

As one passes through the white door on the second floor, the stage set changes once again, transporting occupants into a bedroom space reminiscent of old Hong Kong and the floral times. This nostalgic touch adds a sense of charm and history to the loft.

Cheng's realization of the design involved meticulous attention to detail. High criteria were set for every aspect, and close monitoring of the construction site ensured the project stayed on track. Sustainability and environmental-friendliness were also considered in the choice of features and materials.

The Scenorgraphy Interior project was initiated in October 2013 and completed in September 2014 in Shanghai, China. Cheng's passion for design and his ability to capture the essence of the residential space resulted in a successful and unique project.

This exceptional design was awarded the Iron A' Design Award in 2015, recognizing its well-designed, practical, and innovative characteristics. Cheng's Scenorgraphy Interior showcases the integration of industry best practices and technical excellence, contributing to a better world.
