Grass and Petals is a small necklace and bracelet collection made from metal, silver or brass, and fresh flowers. These are to change each day following season or simply your wish. The vegetal part transforms the jewel into an adaptable jewel. The metallic part is the extension of the grass or flower, being really a stem which winds onto the body. There is no more boundary between the metal and the vegetal; the second is the continuity of the first one. The bracelet has the feature of being both a floral jewel to wear and a floral sculpture.
Many years ago, Anne Dumont dreamed of creating jewelry with flowers. She didn't want flowers simply placed on a jewel like flowers in a vase. She wanted the flowers to be truly integrated into the jewel. With her latest design, the Sketch collection, she had the beginnings of a solution. She just needed to design models that would place the flowers in the right position and direction on the body, as well as adapt the thickness of the wire to create a compromise between the need to insert the stem in the wire and the aesthetic considerations.
What sets the Grass and Petals collection apart is the integration of silk or natural flowers into the design of the jewelry. The vegetal part of the jewel can be changed, creating a unique piece each time. Another interpretation of this design is to see the jewel as the extension of the grass or flowers, becoming a stem that winds onto the body. The bracelet, in particular, can be worn as both a floral jewel and a floral sculpture.
The Grass and Petals collection is made using folded brass or silver wire. Each piece needs to be made at the right size and morphology of the person who will wear it, preventing any industrial production. It remains a handicraft production. Additionally, the packaging for these pieces cannot be the usual size used in jewelry, as it needs to be larger to accommodate the unique design.
This innovative collection offers a new way to wear flowers, with no boundaries between the metal and the vegetal parts. The metal naturally becomes the stem of the flower, winding onto the body. As the flower is changed, the jewel transforms as well, making it an adjustable piece. The Grass and Petals collection was started in June 2015 in Brussels and is an ongoing project for Anne Dumont.
The Grass and Petals collection was awarded the Silver A' Design Award in 2016.
