Cape Mansions: A Sustainable and Stylish Interior Design

Creating a Cozy and Comfortable Home Environment with Natural Materials

The simplistic styling echoes throughout this home within the furniture and lighting that appears around this home. Accomplishing their goals, the Taiwanese artists’ focus was on reusing discarded materials such as wood, iron, stainless steel, bamboo, and plastic to create the furniture carefully designed for each area of the home.

A collaborative Interior Design Project with Taiwanese Artists Master Wei Bin Hsu and Miss Tsao, Cape Mansions stands out for its unique approach to sustainability and style. With natural resources becoming increasingly scarce, the design team aimed to conserve nature by using natural, sustainable, and recycled materials. The combination of these materials creates a cozy and comfortable home environment with notes of modern styling.

In the foyer, the existing slate flooring has been retained and cleaned to showcase its beautiful, natural texture and colors. This not only reduces waste but also preserves a part of the apartment's history. The living room and dining area feature handcrafted furniture made from wood, rattan, and metal, adding an Arcadian quality to the space. A bespoke suspended light fixture with an intricately detailed metal shade brings an industrial flavor, contrasting against the natural materials. The full-height glass sliding doors and windows in the living room provide spectacular views of the ocean.

The kitchen has a rustic and raw look, with exposed blockwork and cement-finished walls balanced by clean-looking stainless steel kitchen equipment and wood detailing. No detail has been overlooked, including the maid's room located off the kitchen. The simplistic styling throughout the home creates a light, comfortable, and at-home ambiance that is sure to impress.

Located directly opposite the relaxation room is the private study, which offers ample space and natural light, complete with ocean views. The rustic theme of bespoke furniture continues in this room, giving it a first-class quality. The master bedroom exudes a light and spacious ambiance and features a walk-in closet. The walls behind the bed and in the shower area have a cement finish with a stucco-like quality. The wash hand basin is located independently outside of the shower area, separate from the bath, shower, and toilet.

The Cape Mansions project, which started in February 2014 and finished in November 2014 in Hong Kong, showcases the successful collaboration between the designer and Taiwanese artists. By efficiently incorporating the reuse of valuable, limited resources, the design promotes sustainable practices and environmental awareness.

Cape Mansions was awarded the Silver A' Design Award in 2016 for its outstanding expertise, innovation, and remarkable level of excellence. This design exemplifies the use of natural materials and sustainable design principles, creating a stylish and environmentally conscious living space.
