Ajax Law's Award-Winning Design Transforms Movie-Going into an Immersive Experience

The inspiration for the Exploded Cinema comes from the vivid scenes of disaster movies. The interior is filled with various-shaped and three-dimensional boxes, all engulfed in black and white, creating a sense of the futuristic and solitary feeling often found in such films. The concessions and kiosk, inclined at assorted angles, blend into the disaster background, triggering associations of meteors in space or debris after chaos.

What sets the Exploded Cinema apart is its ability to let the audience's imagination run wild. As movie-goers watch films, they are also part of a vivid interior that welcomes them as if they have walked into a real movie setting. This is not just a cinema, but a spatial experience that aims to improve human living standards.

The design was a collaboration between Ajax Law and Virginia Lung. The project was completed in Wuhan, China. One of the challenges faced during the design process was to ensure that the cinema not only fulfilled the functional needs of a cinema but also became a spatial experience that enhanced human living standards.

The Exploded Cinema has been recognized for its innovative design, winning the Golden A' Interior Space, Retail and Exhibition Design Award in 2016. This prestigious award is granted to marvelous, outstanding, and trendsetting creations that reflect the designer's prodigy and wisdom. They are venerated products and bright ideas that advance art, science, design, and technology, embodying extraordinary excellence and significantly impacting the world with their desirable characteristics.
