Nuimo: A Natural User Interface for Smart Homes

Revolutionizing the Way We Interact with Smart Devices

There have been two major shifts in technology in the last few decades - the personal computer and the smartphone. We are at the edge of a new shift, accelerated by better technologies, cheaper sensors, and a growing unhappiness with how dependent on technology we are as a society. We need new products that enable us, not hinder us - that disrupt the current dependence on the smartphone, and this is what Senic GmbH is building.

Senic GmbH, the design team behind the innovative Nuimo, is revolutionizing the way we interact with our smart homes. Nuimo is a smart home controller that puts humans back at the center of their smart homes. Unlike the traditional screen-based user interface, Nuimo offers a natural and intuitive way to control your favorite smart devices and applications.

Measuring at 78mm x 78mm x 19mm and weighing just 190 grams, Nuimo is a sleek and compact device that fits seamlessly into any home. Its design features an anodized bead-blasted aluminum ring and acrylic surface, with an injection molded plastic core. Inside, Nuimo houses four capacitive touch surfaces, a physical click button mechanism, and a gesture sensor. It utilizes Bluetooth low energy to communicate and is powered by a rechargeable lipo battery that can be easily charged using a regular micro USB.

When you purchase Nuimo, you simply download a one-time app on your smartphone or computer to configure the device and add your smart objects. You can then customize the inputs, mapping the click button, analog ring, capacitive touch, and gesture sensor to the controls of each of your smart devices. Once configured, you can put away your phone and use Nuimo as a natural user interface, effortlessly controlling your smart home with a simple touch, turn, or gesture.

The Nuimo project began one year ago in Berlin, where the ideation and design took place. The device is manufactured in Germany and is soon to be shipped internationally, bringing the future of smart home control to households worldwide.

Senic GmbH's vision is to empower individuals and provide them with a healthy and empowering way to integrate technology into their lives. They believe that the smartphone, while popular, is not the best interface for interacting with smart devices. By combining hardware, software, psychology, and design, Senic GmbH aims to build better interfaces and experiences that prioritize human interaction and enhance the quality of life.

The Nuimo design has not gone unnoticed in the industry. In 2016, it was awarded the Bronze A' Design Award in the Interface, Interaction, and User Experience Design category. This prestigious award recognizes designs that exhibit strong technical and creative skills, contributing to quality of life improvements and making the world a better place.

With Nuimo, Senic GmbH is leading the way in redefining the way we interact with our smart devices. By putting humans back at the center of their smart homes, Nuimo offers a natural and intuitive control experience that enhances convenience and eliminates the distractions of screen-based interfaces. As technology continues to evolve, Nuimo is a testament to the power of innovation and design in creating a more seamless and enjoyable lifestyle.
