Envio: Revolutionizing Property Management with Data-Driven Design

Martina Vasilj's Award-Winning Interface Design Simplifies Complex Building Data

Envio, an innovative application designed by Martina Vasilj, is transforming the way commercial buildings are managed. By harnessing the power of data, this intuitive interface provides a comprehensive solution for property asset management, earning it the prestigious Silver A' Interface, Interaction, and User Experience Design Award in 2022.

The inspiration behind Envio was to develop an end-to-end solution for any existing commercial building, regardless of the facility’s size, age, or infrastructure. The key to this was creating a solution that was affordable, accessible, and applicable, thereby making a positive impact through connected automation solutions.

Envio's unique property lies in its ability to handle vast amounts of data while maintaining a user-friendly interface. The application gathers data from thousands of sensors across a portfolio of smart buildings, processing millions of raw data points into simple visuals, charts, tables, and graphics. This enables users to easily gain insights and make informed decisions.

The design realization of Envio was achieved using tools such as Figma, Illustrator, Invision, and Zeplin. The application is primarily designed for desktop use, with a simplified quick view mobile design. The challenge of fitting a vast amount of data onto various screen sizes required a high degree of creativity.

Users interact with Envio through a login portal. Depending on their access level and role, users can see, analyze, and manage assigned portfolio buildings or zones. The project, which began in 2016 and was published in 2017, continues to evolve as more customers join the platform and the portfolios grow.

Extensive research and customer engagement were instrumental in the development of Envio. Preliminary analysis and service design included stakeholder insights, user interviews, market research, the creation of personas, ideation workshops, user flow, and a design-based iteration process. The challenge of presenting up to 5 million data points in a simple and easy-to-use manner was successfully overcome.

In conclusion, Martina Vasilj's Envio is a testament to the power of design in simplifying complex processes. By transforming millions of data points into easily digestible visuals, this award-winning application is revolutionizing the way commercial buildings are managed, making it a deserving recipient of the Silver A' Interface, Interaction, and User Experience Design Award.
