Our Scale is not your typical measurement system. It goes beyond the traditional approach of using abstract units and instead focuses on the relationship between the proportions of buildings and the human body. By incorporating statistical data about the distribution of body dimensions in the population, Our Scale optimizes final products and projects, ensuring a perfect fit for users.
One of the key features of Our Scale is its ability to be built in three different scales. At a 1/1 scale, the measurements of a man at 1.90m and a woman at 1.75m are used to calculate the scale and proportion in a project. This scale allows for a realistic representation of the human form in sculptures and other artistic endeavors.
At a 100/1 scale, Our Scale takes on a monumental form. With a man measuring 190m and a woman measuring 175m, this scale is ideal for designing skyscrapers and other large-scale architectural projects. It allows designers to visualize the impact of their creations on a grand scale.
For smaller, more intimate designs, Our Scale offers a 1/10 scale. With a man measuring 19cm and a woman measuring 17.5cm, this scale is perfect for creating candleholders and other decorative objects. It brings a sense of proportion and harmony to these smaller projects.
Our Scale is realized using materials such as steel or wood. Stainless steel, although challenging to work with, offers durability and a sleek aesthetic. Wood, on the other hand, provides a natural and warm feel. Both materials require careful craftsmanship to bring the design to life.
The development of Our Scale was not without its challenges. The introduction of the meter in the 19th century marked a departure from the idea that the human body was the measure of all things. However, Our Scale seeks to bring back the importance of anthropomorphism in architecture and design, showcasing the unique relationship between the human form and the built environment.
Since its inception in 2011, Our Scale has garnered recognition and acclaim. It was exhibited in various venues in Madrid, including sala Green and Hipodromo de la Zarzuela. In 2016, it received the Iron A' Design Award, which recognizes well-designed, practical, and innovative creations that meet professional and industrial requirements.
Our Scale is not just a measurement system; it is a testament to the power of proportion and creativity. By bridging the gap between the human form and the world of design, it offers a new perspective on how we approach projects in art, architecture, and industrial design.
